About The Position

Alpharetta Veterinary Specialty + Emergency (AVSE) in Alpharetta, GA, is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant or Licensed Veterinary Technician to join its outstanding Ophthalmology team. This position is responsible for supporting the attending ophthalmologist in diagnosing and treating ophthalmic disease in companion animals, performing advanced surgical, medical, diagnostic, and laboratory procedures under the direction of a licensed Veterinary Ophthalmologist. The role requires excellent technical skills, strong attention to detail, and clear communication with both the medical team and clients. AVSE is a state-of-the-art, 20,500-square-foot facility offering Emergency and Specialty services including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Oncology, Neurology, and Ophthalmology, designed to deliver advanced medical care while fostering a collaborative, supportive environment. The facility includes four surgical suites, dedicated ICU wards, advanced imaging (CT, MRI, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound), Endoscopy, Digital Radiology, and EzyVet with SmartFlow patient management system. Requirements

  • Active veterinary technician license required for LVT candidates
  • Strong technical skills including patient handling, catheter placement, and basic diagnostics
  • Ability to work around anesthetic gases, chemicals, and zoonotic diseases
  • Comfortable working with animals, including those who may be stressed or in pain
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Fluent English (spoken and written) required
  • Flexibility to support occasional schedule adjustments

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1+ year of experience in a veterinary setting
  • Experience or interest in ophthalmology, anesthesia, or specialty medicine
  • Additional languages a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support the attending ophthalmologist in diagnosing and treating ophthalmic disease in companion animals
  • Perform advanced surgical, medical, diagnostic, and laboratory procedures under the direction of a licensed Veterinary Ophthalmologist
  • Assist with diagnostic testing, procedures, and patient care
  • Perform ophthalmic diagnostics
  • Assist in procedures and surgeries
  • Monitor patients
  • Administer medications
  • Maintain accurate medical records
  • Help prepare and recover patients
  • Maintain equipment and supplies
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and efficient work environment
  • Educate pet owners on ocular conditions, treatment plans, and at-home care instructions
