Lead UX/UI Designer (Temporary)

Quility Insurance
•$50 - $65

About The Position

Quility is seeking a lead UX/UI designer for a temporary, full-time assignment of approximately 12–16 weeks, described as a minimum of four months with the potential to extend. The designer will join a UX leader and another designer and take on active product work immediately. The role begins with UI and design-system work, then shifts toward leading user research and improving UX workflows with AI. The work supports rebuilding legacy insurance-agent tools as next-generation experiences within a consolidated product, involving complex workflows, dense data, and problems that may not yet be fully defined. The role combines delivery of high-fidelity designs, use and improvement of an existing design system, research, product strategy, engineering collaboration, and process improvement. The designer will use AI tools as part of research, synthesis, prototyping, and documentation while retaining responsibility for design judgment. They will also share techniques and document learnings so the team can continue using improvements after the assignment ends. The position works collaboratively with UX, product, engineering, and stakeholders. The team’s shared collaboration hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. The role operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. It is largely sedentary, with access involving two sets of stairs and occasional lifting or moving of objects up to 30 pounds.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years designing digital products, with a portfolio showing process, decisions, and outcomes.
  • Strong Figma UI craft, including components, variants, and auto layout, and experience working within an existing design system.
  • Hands-on experience planning, conducting, and synthesizing interviews and usability tests, with examples of how findings changed a design.
  • Ability to ramp up quickly, including experience joining teams mid-project and becoming productive within the first week.
  • Experience with complex B2B or enterprise products, including dashboards, tables, multi-step workflows, and users who rely on the tool throughout the day.
  • Practical fluency using AI tools in a real workflow, with judgment about where human expertise must remain in charge.
  • Ownership and follow-through, including meeting commitments, tracking deadlines, and raising risks early with proposed solutions.
  • Clear, open communication with UX teams and stakeholders at every level; willingness to share work early, keep the team updated through Teams and Jira, and give and receive direct feedback.
  • Proactivity in ambiguous situations, including asking appropriate questions, stating assumptions, and keeping work moving.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in insurance, fintech, or another regulated-industry SaaS environment.
  • Prior temporary, contract, or consulting work embedded in an in-house team.
  • Experience running workshops or teaching design or AI techniques to a team.
  • Experience using product analytics, such as Amplitude, to form and test design hypotheses.
  • Prototyping with code or AI prototyping tools.
  • Information architecture experience for large navigation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Pick up in-flight features and deliver high-fidelity designs in Figma.
  • Use existing design-system components and patterns, and help organize and optimize how the team works with the system.
  • Partner with engineering by writing clear specifications and handoffs and answering questions during implementation.
  • Plan and conduct user research, including interviews and usability tests, and synthesize findings into clear recommendations.
  • Frame product problems with product and engineering partners and weigh impact, feasibility, and uncertainty.
  • Use AI in research, synthesis, prototyping, and documentation while retaining ownership of design judgment.
  • Propose process changes, test new tool features, and document what works.
  • Share techniques with the team through pairing, short sessions, and documentation.
  • Communicate work early and often, keep the team updated through Teams and Jira, and give and receive direct feedback.
  • Ask questions, state assumptions, and keep work moving amid ambiguity.
  • Track deadlines, deliver commitments, and flag risks early with a proposed solution.
