Lead Storyteller

Plot Pointe
•$200,000 - $250,000

About The Position

The Lead Storyteller leads a team of 8 to 10 storytellers and reviews every story the team creates to ensure only strong stories reach an audience. The role applies PlotPointe’s laws of storytelling consistently and objectively, using them—not personal taste—as the basis for reviewing stories and giving feedback. The Lead Storyteller also brings forward evidence from stories when the laws may need to evolve. About 70 to 80 percent of the work focuses on reviewing stories and training the team. The remaining time is spent creating stories to maintain storytelling skills and credibility with the team. The role also includes studying audience response, developing training materials, supporting consistent publication, onboarding and coaching storytellers, and preparing someone to eventually take over the role. The work is daily and requires fast, clear feedback, but there are no hour requirements; the company evaluates output rather than hours.

Requirements

  • Be a storyteller capable of holding your own with the people you lead.
  • Be able to explain objectively why a story works or does not work, rather than relying only on intuition.
  • Judge stories by the laws of storytelling rather than personal preference; accept stories you personally dislike when they meet the laws, and assess execution rather than rejecting ideas.
  • Give honest, direct, and specific feedback.
  • Have a teaching mindset and be willing to let people learn from mistakes rather than quietly fixing their work yourself.
  • Treat this role as your main commitment, not a side job.
  • Work quickly and connect observations across stories promptly.
  • Be willing to give hard feedback, focus on improving the team’s output, and avoid relying on AI to do the creative work.

Responsibilities

  • Apply the laws of storytelling consistently and objectively, without letting personal taste determine whether a story passes.
  • Review everything the team creates each day and decide whether each story is ready for an audience or needs revision, explaining the reason clearly.
  • Give specific, honest, instructive feedback in the form best suited to each storyteller, such as live sessions, written notes, or recorded walkthroughs.
  • Train each storyteller in the laws, develop individual strengths, and deliberately help team members grow beyond their comfort zones.
  • Keep stories moving through review so the team publishes consistently, while pushing stories toward their strongest possible versions.
  • Study audience behavior to understand why stories succeeded or failed, and share resulting lessons across the company.
  • Bring evidence-based proposals to the team when stories reveal gaps in the laws, rather than inventing separate rules.
  • Create training guides when the team repeatedly encounters the same problem, explaining how to apply the laws without replacing or adding to them.
  • Continue creating stories to maintain storytelling ability and credibility with the team.
  • Onboard new storytellers, check in with each team member, and train someone who could eventually take over the role.
