About The Position

L3Harris is seeking embedded software engineers to work on a dynamic team designing, developing, integrating, and testing embedded controls for Airborne Imaging systems. The team develops, tests, and produces electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) solutions. The role works closely with cross-functional engineering members to develop and evaluate hardware/software interfaces, operational performance requirements, and overall system design. The position includes designing and testing sensor-control software, using development standards and tools, debugging and analyzing software, coordinating integration with other subsystems, and supporting product reviews and production. It also involves managing multiple projects within design specifications and budget restrictions, reporting status, and evaluating vendors. The position is based in Rochester, New York, or Plano, Texas. The schedule is 9/80: employees work nine days in each 14-day period, totaling 80 hours, with every other Friday off.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and at least 9 years of related experience; alternatively, a graduate degree and at least 7 years of related experience.
  • Experience participating in software development throughout the design cycle, including major design and architecture reviews.
  • Experience with hardware and software integration and testing, and embedded development.
  • DevSecOps and test automation experience using Python or similar languages.
  • Experience with APIs, BSPs, drivers, OpenGL, and health and status; programming for Linux, Windows, and QNX operating systems.
  • Experience with C++ systems development and an understanding of software/hardware co-design, distributed systems design, and software/computer architecture.
  • Experience with avionics lifecycle execution.

Nice To Haves

  • Control system modeling using Matlab/Simulink.
  • Experience with embedded security and encryption.
  • Experience with video transport and encoding, including GigE Vision, H.264/265, MISB, and SMPTE standards.
  • Experience with video processing algorithms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a technical information environment.
  • Working knowledge of Bash/Python; Intel x86/ARM/FPGA/SoC, GPP, and GPU; embedded system design; release engineering; change and configuration management; debug/trace analysis; real-time operating systems such as VxWorks, LynxOS, or Integrity; SELinux; software integration, test, and verification/validation.
  • Ability to work well across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to understand and work with network storage, and understanding of Gigabit Ethernet or InfiniBand.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and test sensor control software.
  • Use published OMS, UCI, XML Schema, reference designs, and other standards for product development.
  • Use MS Visual Studio, QNX, Linux, and XMLSpy development tools.
  • Debug and unit test software products.
  • Perform system modeling, simulation, and analysis on complex software.
  • Conduct independent technical investigations to improve system performance or resolve difficult system requirements issues.
  • Coordinate with other functional engineers to develop and test products and resolve compatibility and interface problems with other subsystems.
  • Participate in specification, design, code, and test reviews with other departments.
  • Follow internal processes to ensure conformance with established policies and procedures.
  • Provide timely production support and problem resolution.
