About The Position

L3Harris is seeking embedded software engineers to join a dynamic team designing, developing, integrating, and testing embedded controls for Airborne Imaging systems. The role works with a cross-functional team to develop, test, and produce electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) solutions. The engineer works closely with other members of the engineering organization to develop and evaluate hardware/software interfaces, operational performance requirements, and overall system design. The position includes developing sensor-control software, applying published standards and reference designs, using software development tools and operating systems, debugging and testing software, and modeling and analyzing complex software systems. It also involves technical investigations, coordination with other engineering functions and departments, production support, project and budget management, status reporting, reviewing relevant technical practices, and evaluating vendors. The role is located in Rochester, New York, or Plano, Texas, and follows a 9/80 schedule: employees work nine days over each 14-day period, totaling 80 hours, with every other Friday off.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and at least 6 years of prior related experience; alternatively, a graduate degree and at least 4 years of prior related experience.
  • Experience engaging in software development throughout the design cycle, including major design and architecture reviews.
  • Experience with hardware/software integration and test, and embedded development.
  • DevSecOps and test-automation experience using Python or similar languages.
  • Experience with APIs, BSPs, drivers, OpenGL, and health and status, as well as programming for Linux, Windows, and QNX operating systems.
  • Experience with C++ systems development and understanding of software/hardware co-design, distributed-systems design, and software/computer architecture.
  • Experience with avionics lifecycle execution.

Nice To Haves

  • Control-system modeling using Matlab/Simulink.
  • Experience with embedded security and encryption.
  • Experience with video transport and encoding, including GigE Vision, H.264/H.265, MISB, and SMPTE standards.
  • Experience with video-processing algorithms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a technical information environment.
  • Working knowledge of Bash/Python; Intel x86, ARM, FPGA, SoC, GPP, and GPU; embedded-system design; release engineering; change and configuration management; debug/trace analysis; real-time operating systems such as VxWorks, LynxOS, and Integrity; SELinux; software integration, test, and verification/validation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and test sensor-control software.
  • Use published OMS and UCI standards, XML Schema, reference designs, and other standards for product development.
  • Use MS Visual Studio, QNX, Linux, and XMLSpy development tools.
  • Debug and perform unit testing of software products.
  • Perform system modeling, simulation, and analysis on complex software.
  • Conduct independent, complex technical investigations to improve system performance or resolve difficult system-requirement issues.
  • Coordinate with other functional engineers to develop and test products and resolve subsystem compatibility and interface problems.
  • Participate with other departments in specification, design, code, and test reviews.
  • Follow internal processes to ensure conformance with established policies and procedures.
  • Provide timely production support and resolve problems.
  • Produce timely status reports and projections.
