Lead Software Engineer - Quality Assurance / Test Automation / Agentic Systems

JPMorgan Chase & Co.•Jersey City, NJ
•$156,750 - $215,000

About The Position

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Chief Technology Office (CTO) - Identity & Access Management (IAM), you are an integral part of an agile team that enhances, builds, and delivers trusted technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you build critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas and work closely with business functions and partners to support the firm’s objectives. The role builds, integrates, and operates enterprise-scale automation and an agentic, human-gated testing ecosystem that accelerates delivery while protecting quality, controls, and auditability. It aligns quality engineering with user journeys, partner integration readiness, and an agentic test framework. The work focuses on deterministic test data, stable test environments, integration simulation, coverage integrity, and release-grade evidence across environments. You will champion end-to-end journeys across the AuthE Global Product stack to enable continuous, compliant, evidence-based releases. JPMorganChase provides a competitive total rewards package, including base salary determined by role, experience, skill set, and location. Eligible employees may receive commission-based pay and/or discretionary incentive compensation. Benefits and programs vary based on eligibility and include comprehensive health care coverage, on-site health and wellness centers, a retirement savings plan, backup childcare, tuition reimbursement, mental health support, and financial coaching. Further compensation and benefits details are provided during the hiring process.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software or quality engineering, or software development in test automation concepts, and at least 5 years of applied experience.
  • Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages and frameworks, such as Java, BDD suites (Cucumber/Gherkin), SQL, REST APIs, or Jira.
  • Hands-on engineering and automation depth, including continuous delivery methods and UI automation with Playwright or Selenium, plus API testing experience and a record of building stable suites using selectors, fixtures, reliability patterns, deterministic data, and flake control.
  • Understanding of enterprise testing ecosystems and familiarity with standardizing across frameworks such as FiTest+ and/or other organizational harnesses alongside modern open-source stacks.
  • Ability to build and operationalize a human-gated agentic testing ecosystem that connects agents to frameworks, CI/CD, APIs, and data sources while enforcing correctness, determinism, security, and auditability guardrails.
  • Experience with release readiness and governance, including entry and exit criteria, evidence-based sign-off, and partnership with Release Management in a continuous-delivery operating model.
  • Ability to curate and version a trusted test catalog, continuously measure agent fitness (precision, drift, and false positives/negatives), and ensure outputs remain release-grade across environments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong partnerships across Product, Engineering, Operations, and other lines of business, with executive-ready reporting and risk articulation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools for coding, code review, test acceleration, or troubleshooting, and setting expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers in safe, compliant adoption.
  • Experience building and operating MCP servers or clients to connect LLM agents to tools such as APIs, databases, and internal services.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to implement human-in-the-loop guardrails, including test review standards, signed and versioned catalogs, drift controls, and coverage integrity mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline such as cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or mobile.
  • Experience designing and implementing agentic or LLM-assisted pipelines for continuous test selection, execution, and reporting across environments, including operating MCP servers or clients that connect LLM agents to APIs, databases, and internal services.

Responsibilities

  • Execute creative software solutions, including design, development, and technical troubleshooting, using approaches beyond routine methods to solve technical problems.
  • Drive team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes; establish validation standards for secure coding, peer review, and automated testing, and promote effective reusable patterns.
  • Apply software development lifecycle toolchain capabilities, including authorized AI-assisted development and automation tools, to improve the value realized from automation.
  • Set and run journey quality strategy by translating product intent into risk-based acceptance criteria, measurable quality outcomes, and clear entry and exit standards for key IAM journeys.
  • Maintain a living journey map connecting personas, flows, and tests; tune regression and performance testing scope based on change impact and production learnings.
  • Build partner-facing integration validation through contract tests, stubs, simulators, and automated integration and acceptance suites that emulate partner behaviors and isolate dependency risks.
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate recurring issues or automate their remediation to improve application and system stability.
  • Improve testing-system reliability and reduce flakiness and time to diagnosis through stability patterns, including selectors, fixtures, determinism, parallelism strategy, and clear quarantine and triage rules.
  • Lead the defect prevention loop from reproduction through triage and fix validation to prevention, feeding failure patterns back into coverage, data strategies, and automation improvements.
  • Provide executive-ready journey health and readiness reporting that clearly explains risk, coverage, and release posture using evidence rather than volume metrics.
  • Lead communities of practice across Software Engineering to promote awareness and use of new technologies and contribute to a culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect.

Benefits

  • Competitive total rewards package.
  • Base salary determined by role, experience, skill set, and location.
  • Eligible roles may receive commission-based pay and/or discretionary incentive compensation in cash and/or forfeitable equity.
  • Comprehensive health care coverage.
  • On-site health and wellness centers.
  • Retirement savings plan.
  • Backup childcare.
  • Tuition reimbursement.
  • Mental health support.
  • Financial coaching.
