About The Position

Peraton is seeking a versatile, forward-thinking QA Test Engineer for its Citizens Security & Public Services, State and Local East, Rhode Island DMV Account. The role ensures the quality, reliability, and performance of legacy and modern software, balancing testing of desktop-based VB.NET applications with validation of web applications powered by RESTful APIs. It also involves leveraging or implementing modern testing tools to optimize test suites, generate synthetic data, and advance automation maturity. The position includes end-to-end, functional, regression, and integration testing; API validation; defect management; and test strategy and planning. The engineer will author test cases, test matrices, and user-acceptance criteria based on technical documentation and legacy code logic, while collaborating with developers to investigate and resolve defects. The candidate must be local to Cranston, Rhode Island, and must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (Green Card holder). The stated target salary range is $66,000–$106,000. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

Requirements

At least 2 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree.
At least 2 years of experience in software quality assurance, including manual and automated testing.
Proven experience testing VB.NET applications, such as Windows Forms, WPF, or related .NET architectures, and understanding legacy codebases.
Strong background in functional and system testing for modern, cloud-hosted web applications.
Proficiency writing SQL queries to verify backend data changes and perform data validation.
Extensive hands-on experience with Postman, SoapUI, or similar API client tools.
Strong proficiency testing RESTful APIs, including JSON payloads, HTTP status codes, authentication protocols, and endpoint performance.
Experience with automated API testing frameworks such as RestAssured, Newman, or Postman automated collections.
Experience using modern tools to generate test cases, write automation fragments, or develop edge-case test ideas.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
Must be local to Cranston, Rhode Island.
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (Green Card holder).

Responsibilities

Perform end-to-end, functional, regression, and integration testing on legacy VB.NET desktop environments and modern web applications.
Design, write, and execute test scripts to validate RESTful APIs, including data integrity, security, and edge-case handling.
Evaluate and implement modern testing tools to optimize test generation, execute smart-healing scripts, and automate manual workflows.
Identify, document, and track software defects through resolution using tools such as Jira, working with developers to reproduce complex bugs.
Create detailed test cases, test matrices, and user-acceptance criteria based on technical documentation and legacy code logic.
