About The Position

Intertek is seeking a Lead Software Developer to join its People Assurance Platform team in Bozeman, Montana. The role provides senior technical leadership for the core services, APIs, and data layer underlying Intertek’s products. The developer owns complex, cross-cutting technical work, including designing scalable services, modeling and optimizing relational data, and architecting AWS cloud solutions. The position sets technical direction, establishes engineering standards, and raises code quality through reviews and mentorship. It partners with architecture, product, QA, and DevOps to deliver reliable, performant, secure, and maintainable software at scale. The role is 100% onsite, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and may require travel as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
At least 8 years of software engineering experience, including technical leadership and ownership of complex systems.
Expertise in PHP, Laravel, REST APIs, AWS cloud services, relational databases (MySQL preferred), SQL optimization, software architecture, and modern development best practices.
Experience with front-end technologies, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and Git/GitHub.
Ability to design scalable, secure, and maintainable applications.
Proven ability to mentor engineers, solve complex technical problems, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to thrive in Agile, cross-functional environments.
Detail-oriented and customer-focused, adaptable to changing priorities, and committed to quality and safety.
Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

Oversee platform development, set engineering standards, drive architectural decisions, and ensure high-quality, secure, maintainable code through reviews and best practices.
Design, develop, and maintain scalable platform services, shared libraries, and APIs using PHP and Laravel.
Mentor developers, resolve complex technical challenges, and lead technical debt reduction and refactoring initiatives.
Design AWS-based services, manage databases, optimize SQL performance, execute migrations, and ensure scalable data architecture.
Improve platform observability, performance, scalability, incident response, authentication, authorization, and data protection.
Establish REST API contracts, versioning strategies, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and deployment practices with DevOps.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, scope projects, estimate work, translate business needs into technical solutions, and support product delivery.
Partner with QA, document technical decisions and architecture, support production operations, and improve platform stability.
Participate in Scrum ceremonies, identify risks, demonstrate completed features, and communicate customer value during Sprint Reviews.
Stay current with emerging technologies, understand the competitive landscape, complete required training, and support additional organizational needs as required.
