Lead Project Planner and Scheduler

GE Vernova•Atlanta, GA

About The Position

The Lead Project Planner and Scheduler develops and maintains integrated project schedules across a large portfolio to support project reporting and on-time delivery analysis. The role ensures schedules comply with Gas Power New Combine Cycle customer requirements, contractual commitments, and PMO processes and standards. Its primary focus is the intersection of Primavera P6 scheduling, supply chain integration, and concurrent engineering. The role connects engineering, procurement, and construction teams so schedules reflect design progress, material lead times, and field execution. It leads baseline development and re-baselining and conducts critical-path analysis to mitigate delays before they affect contractual dates. The role receives and validates bid schedules during ITO/OTR handovers, assesses baseline feasibility against engineering and supply chain constraints, supports contract kick-off meetings, and tracks schedule-related actions. It develops L2 and L3 integrated schedules, aligns functional owners on baseline commitments, and integrates supplier lead times, manufacturing cycles, logistics, and concurrent engineering workflows. During execution, it maintains the master schedule, monitors progress and constraints, coordinates multi-unit schedules, manages risks and what-if analyses, and recommends mitigation strategies. The position also manages schedule-tool integrations and data accuracy, reports schedule updates to internal and external stakeholders, supports extension-of-time and cost claims through delay analysis, and contributes lessons learned and process improvements to global scheduling practices. GE Vernova describes a professional development-oriented work environment, challenging careers, and competitive compensation. The role is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus. For U.S.-based candidates, the stated pay range is $100,000 to $166,700, with geographic differentials in certain areas. Relocation assistance is not provided. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage; a 24/7 health coach and Employee Assistance Program; retirement savings and company contributions; tuition and adoption assistance; paid parental leave; disability benefits; life insurance; 12 paid holidays; and permissive time off.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, supply chain, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in project planning and scheduling in a complex engineering or EPC environment.
  • Experience using Primavera P6.
  • Ability to challenge unrealistic durations or at-risk commitments and drive action through confidence and analytics without direct authority.
  • Ability to translate complex schedule data into simple, actionable insights for senior leadership and customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in power generation and heavy industrial equipment.
  • Advanced project management certification such as PMP.
  • Scheduling certification such as PSP from AACE.

Responsibilities

  • Attend ITO/OTR handover meetings, receive L1/L2 bid equipment schedules, and validate assumptions, risk registers, and contractual milestone dates.
  • Assess the feasibility of ITO schedules against engineering and supply chain constraints and identify gaps between the sold schedule and executable plan.
  • Support contract kick-off meetings and track schedule-related action items through closure.
  • Develop L2 and L3 integrated project schedules in Primavera P6 in accordance with global planning standards.
  • Integrate supplier lead times, manufacturing cycles, logistics durations, and purchase-order required dates into schedules, including across multi-unit projects.
  • Partner with engineering leads to model concurrent engineering workflows and sequence design releases for procurement and construction handoffs.
  • Lead baseline commitment meetings with engineering, sourcing, and project management functional owners to resolve disconnects and secure alignment on the P0 baseline.
  • Update the master schedule monthly using task-owner inputs and analyze progress curves, float consumption, and Say/Do ratios.
  • Conduct critical-path analyses, identify potential delays, and recommend mitigation strategies to the Project Manager and functional leadership.
  • Manage scheduling constraints and re-baselining efforts while minimizing reporting disruption and preserving commitment dates in shadow fields.
  • Maintain consistency across multi-unit projects and manage purchase-order required dates to prevent schedule drift between units.
  • Maintain schedule risk information and run what-if scenarios to assess the effects of risks and opportunities on the critical path.
  • Maintain Primavera P6 as the single source of truth and manage integrations with Unifier, Pulse, WIPT, Tableau, and other adjacent tools to ensure data accuracy.
  • Prepare and present schedule updates to internal leadership, functional teams, and external customers, adapting communications for non-planning audiences.
  • Support extension-of-time and cost claims through forensic or retrospective delay analysis.
  • Facilitate project close-out reports, document lessons learned, and feed improvements into the Scheduling Center of Excellence.
  • Identify process disconnects across regional teams or functions and drive solutions to standardize global processes.
