About The Position

Verkada is hiring a Lead Product Manager for its Video Platform. The role owns live streaming, historical playback, cloud backup and clip export, transcoding, third-party video ingest, and encryption of stored and exported video. The products are used when customers open a camera in Command, on a phone, through an API, or on a wall display. The Lead Product Manager works with backend, frontend, and mobile engineers across the software stack, as well as customers, to build revenue-driving features and resolve video issues involving playback, backups, and quality. The role requires prior experience shipping video products and building a high-quality playback experience. This position is based onsite at Verkada's headquarters in San Mateo, California, five days per week.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of product management experience, currently operating at Lead- or Group-level scope.
  • Experience owning a video product area, rather than a single feature.
  • At least 3 years at a company whose product is video, such as streaming, playback, recording, VMS, real-time video, or video infrastructure.
  • More than one shipped product used by outside users to watch live video, play back, record, or export video.
  • Ability to work with engineers on HLS, WebRTC, RTSP, H.264, HEVC, transcoding, cloud recording, and encryption.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with engineers and customers.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a similar quantitative field.
  • Willingness and ability to work onsite five days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Own live view and historical playback, including the player, timeline, scrubbing, time to first picture, stalls, and synchronized audio across web, mobile, and API.
  • Own cloud backup and clip export, including retention, product scope, and reliable delivery of requested clips.
  • Own reliable, high-quality streaming experiences under challenging conditions, including multiple viewers, limited site connectivity, and cameras recording while cloud connectivity is unavailable.
  • Own third-party video ingested via RTSP for playback in different formats and clients.
  • Own transcoding decisions, including when to transcode HEVC to H.264, cost considerations, and failure rates.
  • Own customer-controlled encryption for stored and exported video, with customers holding the keys.
  • Set engineering quality standards for playback, framing, and cloud backups.
  • Proactively identify and resolve customer issues using core Quality of Service performance metrics.
  • Work with sales, support, go-to-market, and design teams to deliver revenue-driving video products.

Benefits

  • Healthcare programs tailored to employees' health and financial well-being; employee premiums are 100% covered under at least one plan, and family premiums are 80% covered under all plans.
  • Nationwide medical, vision, and dental coverage.
  • Beginning January 2027, a company match on a portion of 401(k) contributions based on eligible earnings; the match vests on the employee's two-year anniversary.
  • Health Savings Account with annual employer contributions and Flexible Spending Account.
  • Expanded mental health support.
  • Paid parental leave and fertility benefits.
  • Paid holidays, firmwide extended holidays, flexible PTO, and personal sick time.
  • Professional development stipend.
