The role's products are used across Command, mobile devices, APIs, and wall displays. The role is based onsite at Verkada's headquarters in San Mateo, California, five days per week.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of product management experience, currently at Lead- or Group-level scope, with ownership of a video area rather than a single feature.
  • At least 3 years at a company whose product is video, such as streaming, playback, recording, a VMS, real-time video, or video infrastructure.
  • More than one shipped product that an outside user watched live, played back, recorded, or exported.
  • Ability to work with engineers on HLS, WebRTC, RTSP, H.264, HEVC, transcoding, cloud recording, and encryption.

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a similar quantitative field.
  • Willingness and ability to work onsite five days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Own live view and historical playback across web, mobile, and API, including the player, timeline, scrubbing, time to first picture, stalls, and synchronized audio.
  • Own cloud backup and clip export, including retention, product scope, and reliable delivery of requested clips.
  • Own reliable, high-quality streaming experiences under challenging conditions, including many viewers on one camera, sites on LTE or limited uplinks, and cameras continuing to record when the cloud path is unavailable.
  • Own third-party video ingestion via RTSP for playback in various formats and clients.
  • Own transcoding decisions, including when to transcode, costs, and failure rates for recorded HEVC video and clients that support only H.264.
  • Own customer-controlled encryption for stored and exported video, with customers holding the keys.
  • Set engineering quality standards for playback, framing, and cloud backups.
  • Proactively identify and resolve customer issues using core Quality of Service performance metrics.
  • Work with sales, support, go-to-market, and design to deliver revenue-driving video products.

  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with annual employer contributions and Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
  • Expanded mental health support.
  • Paid parental leave and fertility benefits.
  • Paid holidays, firmwide extended holidays, flexible PTO, and personal sick time.
