About The Position

The American Medical Association (AMA) is seeking a Lead Policy Analyst for its Advocacy team. This is a hybrid position based in Chicago, IL, requiring three days a week in the office. The role demands specialized expertise and the ability to lead others in solving complex problems, working independently with guidance only on the most intricate issues. The Lead Policy Analyst may also lead functional teams or projects. The AMA is a non-profit organization and the nation's largest professional Association of physicians, dedicated to improving public health and supporting physicians and their patients.

Requirements

Master's degree required
7+ years of experience in the healthcare industry
Knowledge of electronic standards development organizations (e.g., X12, NCPDP, HL7), health information technology, claims revenue cycle, and/or utilization management programs strongly preferred.
Excellent writing skills, with the ability to create a variety of document types for different audiences.
Excellent oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively, confidently, and professionally represent the AMA and physicians in external organizations.
Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to independently and efficiently locate information, evaluate source quality and research methodologies, and concisely present findings.
Strong project management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-focused environment.
Some travel required, including overnight travel and potential weekend meetings/conferences.

Responsibilities

Advocate for physicians in electronic standards development and health information technology organizations through active participation in calls, meetings, and submission of ballot comments.
Collaborate on cross-Advocacy administrative simplification and payer policy reform activities, including developing comments on federal and state legislation/regulation.
Assist in the development of advocacy documents such as presentations, briefing materials, testimony, and correspondence for key burden reduction issues.
Represent the AMA at various national meetings, conferences, and speaking events.
Monitor physician and AMA member complaints to identify problematic administrative burdens and private payer policies affecting physician practices, and work with the Director on advocacy strategies.
Conduct primary and secondary research on industry trends regarding administrative burdens to support AMA policy development.
Prepare summary analyses of research to inform AMA advocacy strategy.
Create AMA educational resources (whitepapers, webinars, videos) focused on burden reduction topics to help physicians automate workflows, fight unfair payer policies, and improve revenue cycle management.
Assist in the dissemination of resources to physician members and the Federation of Medicine.
Coordinate with internal AMA communications and marketing teams for timely delivery and promotion of practice educational resources.
May include other responsibilities as assigned.
