About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Lead Node.js Engineer to join a technology team and lead the architecture, development, and delivery of high-performance backend microservices and APIs. The engineer will work closely with engineering leads, product managers, and cross-functional teams to build scalable, reliable software in an agile, cloud-native environment.

This is a long-term contract role based in Livingston, New Jersey, with a hybrid schedule requiring three days onsite per week. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance and attend the final interview round onsite.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of total software development experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in a Lead or Principal capacity.
• Expert-level proficiency in Node.js, Express.js or NestJS, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Strong background building and scaling RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-native applications using AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL, and NoSQL stores such as MongoDB, Redis, and DynamoDB.
• Hands-on experience with message brokers and event streaming, such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS.
• Experience with DevOps automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Exceptional communication skills and a proven record of mentoring developers and explaining technical architecture to leadership.
• Must be within a reasonable commuting distance of Livingston, NJ, for three onsite days per week.
• Must be available to attend the final interview round onsite in Livingston, NJ.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and maintain high-throughput backend services and microservices using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Provide technical leadership, architectural guidance, and code reviews for junior and mid-level engineers.
• Design and implement RESTful APIs, GraphQL services, and event-driven architectures.
• Optimize database queries, data models, and application performance in SQL and NoSQL environments.
• Drive best practices for CI/CD deployment pipelines, containerization, and cloud services.
• Participate in agile ceremonies, sprint planning, technical design reviews, and backlog refinement.
• Conduct unit, integration, and end-to-end testing to support high reliability and zero-downtime releases.
• Mentor developers and communicate technical architecture to leadership.
