About The Position

A Mentor Lead will have a strong desire to support our mentors and new eduactors at CPS. Successful teaching experience and a passion to improve teacher retention is a requirement. A Mentor Lead must be a prior mentor teacher who has demonstrated experience mentoring new staff and achieving results with retention. In addition, a Mentor Lead will have strong rapport with administration and colleagues. The Mentor Lead will also have a marked ability to lead, guide, counsel, and complete all Mentor Lead responsibilities. Mentor Leads should also be committed to helping mentors and mentees have a positive experience in Chelsea in order to increase teacher retention. All Mentor Leads must attend a training before the new teacher orientation days in addition to the first day of NEO on August 21, 2023 (Full day for Mentor Leads). The day prior to NEO will be designated prior to June 30th. The appointment of a Mentor Lead teacher is for one year only. Previous Mentor Lead teachers wishing to be assigned anew must submit a new application. All Mentor Leads must be available during new teacher orientation on August 21 - 24, 2023 to support with the mentoring program.

  • Must submit a new application if a previous Mentor Lead teacher wishing to be assigned anew.
  • Complete required assigned summer reading before NEO.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating the mentor program at the grade range level by scheduling, planning and facilitating monthly meetings with teacher mentors and new teachers.
  • Coordinate and lead NEO in planning, preparing, and executing the NEO week.
  • Mentor leads will collaborate with administrators to plan and prepare for NEO.
  • Assist the District administrators with planning quarterly district mentor meetings as well as mentor training in August.
  • Must be available for preparation before and during new teacher orientation training the week before school begins for all Teachers.
  • Assist with differentiation of curriculum and activities for staff new to teaching vs. new teachers with prior experience.
  • Facilitate communication between teacher mentors, content coaches and building administration.
  • Collect documentation such as time logs from each mentor at the grade range, end of year data from surveys, and information from exit interviews.
  • Work with administration to ensure that the content for the meetings are aligned with the school and district's instructional focus.
  • Take on a mentee if a mentor is on a leave during the year.
  • District Mentor Lead Only - Will be supporting with new mentors and providing professional development.
  • Complete required assigned summer reading before NEO.
  • Other duties as assigned by an Administrator.
