About The Position

This role is for a Lead - Mentor Teacher (ELC) for the SY26-27 school year, specifically for internal candidates. The position requires a strong desire to support new educators within CPS and a passion for improving teacher retention. The Lead Mentor Teacher will assist in coordinating the mentor program at the grade range level, including scheduling, planning, and facilitating monthly meetings. They will also coordinate and lead the New Educator Orientation (NEO) week, collaborating with administrators to plan and prepare for it. Attendance at all meetings for the full duration is required. The role involves assisting district administrators with planning quarterly district mentor meetings and mentor training in August. Availability for preparation before and during new teacher orientation training the week before school begins is essential. Responsibilities include assisting with the differentiation of curriculum and activities for new staff, facilitating communication between mentors, content coaches, and administration, and collecting documentation such as time logs, survey data, and exit interview information. The Lead Mentor Teacher will work with administration to ensure meeting content aligns with the school and district's instructional focus. They may also take on a mentee if a mentor is on leave. For District Mentor Leads, there is an additional responsibility of supporting new mentors and providing professional development. Completing assigned summer reading before NEO is also required. Other duties may be assigned by an Administrator.

Requirements

  • Must be a mentor teacher.
  • Must have completed the Project SUCCESS: Mentoring in Action coursework, or demonstrated experience mentoring new staff and achieving results with retention.
  • Strong desire to support new educators to CPS.
  • Experience and passion to improve teacher retention is a requirement.
  • Attendance at all meetings for the full duration are required.
  • Must be available for preparation before and during new teacher orientation training the week before school begins for all Teachers.
  • Complete required assigned summer reading before NEO.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating the mentor program at the grade range level by scheduling, planning and facilitating monthly meetings with teacher mentors and new teachers.
  • Coordinate and lead NEO in planning, preparing, and executing the NEO week.
  • Collaborate with administrators to plan and prepare for NEO.
  • Assist the District administrators with planning quarterly district mentor meetings as well as mentor training in August.
  • Be available for preparation before and during new teacher orientation training the week before school begins for all Teachers.
  • Assist with differentiation of curriculum and activities for staff new to teaching vs. new teachers with prior experience.
  • Facilitate communication between teacher mentors, content coaches and building administration.
  • Collect documentation such as time logs from each mentor at the grade range, end of year data from surveys, and information from exit interviews.
  • Work with administration to ensure that the content for the meetings are aligned with the school and district's instructional focus.
  • Take on a mentee if a mentor is on a leave during the year.
  • Support with new mentors and providing professional development (District Mentor Lead Only).
  • Complete required assigned summer reading before NEO.
  • Other duties as assigned by an Administrator.
