About The Position

This is a lead-level mechanical engineering position supporting mission-critical projects, with a hybrid arrangement combining work from home and office work. The role leads mechanical design engineering efforts on multidisciplinary project teams and applies mechanical engineering expertise to the design and analysis of special-purpose equipment, pressure vessels, interfacing systems, controls, and structural support elements. It offers challenging opportunities and potential for career advancement. The engineer prepares and reviews calculations, mechanical designs, equipment specifications, reports, and studies; provides documented design input for drawing production; and communicates with vendors and customers. The role also develops budgets, schedules, and work plans for single-discipline or simple-scope projects, monitors work against budget and schedule, and mentors junior engineers. U.S. citizenship is required, and the position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Requirements

Must be a U.S. citizen; dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify.
Must be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.
BSME or MSME from an ABET-accredited engineering program, with a strong academic background and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, machine design, or thermal systems.
10 or more years of progressive, responsible experience in mechanical engineering, ideally in a nuclear environment.
Experience producing engineering designs and analyses for piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and/or radioactive material handling systems.
Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations applicable to mechanical engineering design, such as ASME B31 piping codes, the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, and ASME AG-1.
Experience with Finite Element Analysis or advanced engineering software, such as ANSYS, AutoPIPE, Datacor/AFT flow simulation, Hourly Analysis Program, or Trace 700.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Professional Engineer (PE) license.
DOE experience.
Commercial or Navy field engineering and construction experience.
Experience with CAD software such as Solidworks, Inventor, Microstation, or AutoCAD.
Programming or scripting experience, such as Python, MATLAB, Mathcad, or advanced Excel.
Experience with glovebox and hot cell design.
Interest in learning and effectively using emerging technologies where relevant to the role; experience with AI, automation, programming, or similar technologies is valued but not required.

Responsibilities

Lead mechanical design engineering efforts on a multidisciplinary project design team.
Apply mechanical engineering expertise to the design and analysis of special-purpose equipment, pressure vessels, interfacing systems, controls, and structural support elements.
Prepare and review complex calculations.
Prepare and review mechanical systems and equipment designs.
Prepare documented design input for drawing production, including P&IDs, machine layouts, and general arrangements.
Prepare and review equipment specifications.
Communicate with vendors using clearly written, complete specifications.
Prepare and review reports and studies.
Develop budgets, schedules, and work plans for single-discipline or simple-scope projects.
Monitor own work to ensure it is completed within budget and on schedule.
Interface directly with customers in project meetings.
Mentor junior engineers.
