About The Position

This is a lead-level mechanical engineering position offering challenging opportunities and career advancement. The role leads mechanical design engineering efforts on a multidisciplinary project team, applying mechanical engineering expertise to the design and analysis of special purpose equipment, pressure vessels, and interfacing systems, controls, and structural support elements. The position allows for a hybrid arrangement with a mix of work from home and in-office work. The engineer prepares and reviews calculations, mechanical systems and equipment designs, drawing-production design inputs, equipment specifications, and reports or studies. The role also involves communicating with vendors and customers, developing and monitoring budgets and schedules for single-discipline or simple-scope projects, and mentoring junior engineers.

  • Must be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with a strong academic background and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, machine design, or thermal systems.
  • At least 10 years of progressive responsible experience in mechanical engineering, ideally in a nuclear environment.
  • Experience producing engineering designs and analyses for piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and/or radioactive material handling systems.
  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations applicable to mechanical engineering design, such as ASME B31 piping codes, the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, and ASME AG-1.
  • Experience with finite element analysis or advanced engineering software, such as ANSYS, AutoPIPE, Datacor/AFT flow simulation, Hourly Analysis Program, or Trace 700.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • DOE experience, commercial or Navy.
