About The Position

The Lead Diesel Mechanic is responsible for leading the maintenance and repair of the company's fleet of diesel trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and stationary processing equipment. This hands-on leadership role ensures equipment is maintained safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards while minimizing downtime and maximizing operational productivity. The Lead Mechanic will serve as the technical expert within the shop, providing guidance to other technicians, assisting with complex diagnostics, prioritizing repairs, and ensuring preventative maintenance schedules are followed. This position requires advanced troubleshooting skills, strong leadership abilities, and extensive experience working on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, heavy construction equipment, and industrial processing equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of diesel mechanic experience
  • Experience repairing heavy construction equipment
  • Experience repairing Class A diesel trucks and trailers
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines
  • Advanced hydraulic troubleshooting skills
  • Strong electrical diagnostic experience
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics
  • Must supply personal mechanic tools
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily maintenance operations and assign repair priorities.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics on diesel engines, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Repair and maintain Class A trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and stationary processing equipment.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime.
  • Troubleshoot complex equipment failures and determine effective repair solutions.
  • Mentor and train maintenance technicians on proper repair procedures and safety practices.
  • Inspect completed repairs to ensure quality workmanship.
  • Coordinate with Operations to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Perform engine, transmission, suspension, brake, steering, fuel system, and drivetrain repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems, wiring, sensors, and electronic controls.
  • Perform hydraulic repairs including cylinders, pumps, valves, hoses, and motors.
  • Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and equipment modifications as needed.
  • Maintain accurate repair orders, inspection reports, and preventative maintenance records.
  • Assist with inventory management and parts ordering.
  • Ensure shop cleanliness and organization.
  • Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns when necessary.
  • Enforce company safety policies and DOT compliance standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and maintenance efficiency.
