About The Position

The Lead Mechanic provides guidance to lower-level technicians in vehicle repair and technical inspection techniques and procedures, following directives, technical manuals, work standards, and operational policies. The role performs daily mechanical repairs and services, including motor and gearbox changes and maintenance, and helps ensure plant equipment is maintained safely and properly to support 100% reliability and minimize unexpected-repair downtime.

The Lead Mechanic contributes to daily start-up and monthly department meetings to support communication, monitors repair-operation performance and efficiency, participates in technical and safety training, and performs computer-related tasks using work management and project scheduling systems, CAD programs, email, calendars, and spreadsheets. The position directs Maintenance Mechanics and covers operations and maintenance positions as required. Other duties may be assigned.

Pay range: $30–$40 per hour, depending on experience. Alltown Bus Service and DHT Transportation provide school transportation and specialized coach and charter services in Detroit and the Chicago area. Alltown operates a fleet of more than 600 buses across six locations.

Requirements

• Three years of transportation mechanic experience.
• High school diploma.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical repairs and services to equipment daily.
• Perform motor and gearbox changes and maintenance.
• Contribute to daily start-up and monthly department meetings, ensuring thorough communication to associates.
• Manage and monitor the performance and efficiency of repair operations.
• Participate in technical and safety training programs.
• Perform computer-related activities as necessary, including using work management and project scheduling systems, CAD programs, email, calendars, and spreadsheets.
• Direct Maintenance Mechanics to maintain plant equipment safely and properly, with the goal of 100% reliability and minimum downtime for unexpected repairs.
• Cover operations and maintenance positions as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
