About The Position

The Santa Clarita Community College District/College of the Canyons is seeking a full-time Lead Information Technology Coordinator in the Business Services and Information Technology division. This position provides user support to assist information technology end-users, ensuring that the information technology needs of district staff are met professionally and in a timely manner. The role involves evaluating and testing application programs, computer, and audio/visual hardware prior to installation, and providing training to hourly staff and small groups of college employees. Responsibilities include assisting in the maintenance of network accounts and system resources, performing skilled and technical duties related to the installation, configuration, maintenance, and repair of software, computers, audio/visual components, peripheral equipment, and telecommunications equipment. The position also involves providing leadership within the department, coordinating projects, and ensuring the proper operation and security of computer systems, network equipment, and servers. The Lead Information Technology Coordinator will perform advanced project management tasks, participate in the planning, administration, and maintenance of technical functions, and install and maintain various types of equipment. User help desk functions, planning and coordinating training sessions, and recommending equipment purchases are also key duties. The role requires troubleshooting and repairing computer, peripheral, audio/visual equipment, and software applications, as well as maintaining end-user operating systems and application programs. The Lead Information Technology Coordinator will also provide direction to part-time employees and assist in training lower-classification technicians.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years increasingly-responsible experience providing technical user support services and/or maintaining, supporting and repairing computers, software applications, audio/visual equipment and telecommunications equipment.
  • Education equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree (120 units) from an accredited institution or any combination equivalent to four years of college, trade school or training program coursework in computer science, electronics, information systems, computer networking or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of commercial software packages and operating systems including but not limited to the Microsoft Windows current and previous operating systems, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, Photoshop, Acrobat reader and Mac OS.
  • Computer hardware peripherals including but not limited to scanners, digital cameras, and printers.
  • Computer networking equipment, testing devices and cabling standards.
  • Information systems technology and terms including recent developments in networking and computer technology.
  • Methods and procedures used in the maintenance and repair of electronics systems and instruments.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, schedule and perform simple and complex user support activities in an organized manner.
  • Ability to use computers and computer technology in daily duties.
  • Ability to use initiative and problem-solving skills in carrying out responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership within the department and coordinates projects and other assignments requiring a high level of responsibility and independence.
  • Provides expertise and support for major IT projects and systems impacting multiple departments.
  • Performs duties to ensure proper operation and security of the computer systems, network equipment and servers to provide technology resources for District faculty, staff and students.
  • Performs advanced project management tasks such as plan, manage, organize, and schedule project timelines, resource allocation, oversee and document all aspects of large scale projects that impacts both CCC and VLC.
  • Participates in the planning, administration and maintenance of technical functions and matters related to multi-vendor equipment and software.
  • Installs and maintains a variety of equipment including computers, laptops, printers, scanners and other peripherals.
  • Performs user help desk functions and operations; use a record-keeping system to log requests and track resolution of problems.
  • Plans and coordinates various workshops and training sessions related to the use of District computer and audio/visual technology to employees over the phone, at their work location and in one-on-one, small group and classroom training environments.
  • Assists and coordinates the checkout of equipment to District faculty and staff.
  • Recommends the purchase of new and replacement equipment.
  • Requisitions, orders and stores spare and replacement parts.
  • Schedules repairs and completes related paperwork for warranty claims as necessary.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance and repairs of computer and audio/visual equipment; troubleshoots and repairs computers, peripherals, audio/visual equipment and software applications.
  • Installs, configures, updates and maintains a variety of computer and audio/visual equipment including projectors, computers, printers, scanners, televisions and other peripherals.
  • Operates testing and measurement devices, computer diagnostic software and other specialized instruments used in the repair and maintenance of computer equipment, audio/visual equipment and related peripherals.
  • Consults with various departments to determine current and future technical needs; works with faculty and staff on acquiring equipment for evaluations and purchase.
  • Provides assistance to students, faculty and staff on utilizing computer and software programs including remote access and the proper use of audio-visual equipment in conjunction with computers and peripherals.
  • Assists in the maintenance of user accounts on the system.
  • Works in a team environment with other members of the Information Technology staff to maintain the district's network infrastructure and support users in departments and offices throughout the district.
  • Maintains a current and accurate inventory of computer hardware, software, audio/visual equipment and licenses owned or leased by the district.
  • Prepares instructions on the installation and use of district supported hardware and application programs.
  • Connects computers and peripherals to the campus network (both wired and wireless) including cabling when necessary, network protocol configuration and NIC installation.
  • Tests software performance prior to releasing new applications for desktop and network use.
  • Maintains end-user Operating Systems and application programs on PC and Macintosh desktop environments to ensure proper operation.
  • Provides direction to part-time employees and assists in the training of employees in the lower technician classifications.
  • Drives to various locations to setup and modify new and existing audio visual equipment.
  • Attends meetings as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
