About The Position

Builds teacher capacity across the district in PreK-12 Health, Wellness, and Physical Education (HWPE) curriculum, instruction, and assessment by facilitating and leading district initiatives. Supports the goals and mission of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction to enhance student learning through consistent support of students' physical, mental, emotional, and social development via a comprehensive approach to wellness. Uses the HWPE standards and health behavior outcomes to guide planning and instruction, encourages clear thinking, active learning, teamwork, and effective communication, and collaborates with schools to improve daily instruction and help teachers create safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in education, curriculum development, or a related field Required
  • 5-7 years of successful HWPE teaching experience Required
  • Experience in presenting and modeling exemplary teaching practices to adult learners in a variety of settings, such as workshops, seminars, and college courses.
  • Instructional leadership experience (e.g., team leader, department chair, school-wide committees, system-wide committees, etc.)
  • Demonstrates high expectations and models effective instructional strategies for continuous student improvement.
  • Relates and interacts positively with teachers, other staff, students, administrators, central office personnel, parents, and the general public.
  • Communicates effectively in written and oral form; possesses excellent public speaking abilities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a teacher leadership role (i.e., departmental/grade level chairperson, school leadership team member, etc.).
  • Evidence of effective leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated competency in adult learning theory and developing and leading professional learning opportunities for instructional staff and parents.
  • Organization, data-based decision making, and problem solving.
  • Technology skills: Teams, Microsoft Office, Excel, SharePoint, iOS, and/or other district applications or equipment as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates and assists in the development of scope and sequence documents and high-quality instructional units aligned to standards and suggests revisions as needed.
  • Develops procedures and training for teachers and/or instructional staff related to curriculum implementation of new content or programs.
  • Provides leadership to develop a culture that fosters professional learning communities.
  • Clearly articulates district initiatives and vision to a variety of Stakeholders for instructional programming within the scope of the content area.
  • Supports implementation of system-wide initiatives and assists in monitoring to ensure successful implementation and delivery of curricula and/or programs.
  • Conducts school visits and participates in school walkthroughs, collaborative team planning, and reflective practices.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities and coordinates and facilitates district level professional development offerings.
  • Oversees textbook adoption committees and reviews and provides feedback on supplemental resources.
