About The Position

Circle is seeking a hands-on Lead Engineer to own Analytics and Member Growth. The role combines technical leadership and daily engineering work: leading a small team of tenured engineers, making technical decisions, reviewing designs and pull requests, and shipping code. The position owns how digital business owners understand their business through analytics—including data used by Circle AI—and how new members progress from signup to meaningful participation in a community. The role leads technical strategy and architecture for analytics, including interactive data visualizations, ClickHouse data infrastructure, and LLM-powered natural-language analytics experiences. It also owns the Member Growth roadmap for onboarding, activation, and reducing barriers to engagement. The Lead Engineer partners with product, design, data, and leadership to develop a data-informed growth roadmap, validate changes through experimentation, and support engineers' performance and career development. Circle operates as a fully remote, highly asynchronous company and expects the team to work AI-first, using agents while critically evaluating their output.

Requirements

  • Prior experience leading or managing engineering teams and leading engineers on large initiatives, setting direction, reviewing work, and supporting their development while remaining a strong individual contributor.
  • A product mindset, including deep understanding of customers, ability to question and shape requirements, and comfort making fast, independent decisions using SaaS and product best practices.
  • At least 7 years of experience shipping production software on complex web applications.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails, MySQL or PostgreSQL, ReactJS, and TypeScript.
  • Strong track record in at least one of data or analytics infrastructure (such as ClickHouse, data warehousing, or BI) or growth and lifecycle product engineering (such as onboarding, activation, or retention).
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, product, design, and go-to-market teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving problem spaces and translate findings into clear priorities.
  • Strong alignment with Circle’s values.
  • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills (CEFR C2 or equivalent).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience shipping LLM-powered product features, such as natural-language data Q&A or AI agents.
  • Familiarity with billing tools or payments infrastructure such as Stripe.
  • Experience working in a growth-oriented or product-led growth engineering organization.
  • Experience across both data/analytics infrastructure and growth/lifecycle product engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, grow, and coach engineers across Analytics and Member Growth while remaining hands-on with design and pull request reviews and daily code delivery.
  • Own the technical strategy and architecture for Circle’s analytics stack, including interactive data visualizations, ClickHouse data infrastructure, and LLM-powered natural-language data experiences.
  • Own the Member Growth roadmap, including onboarding flows, activation, and reducing friction to community engagement.
  • Partner with product, design, data, and leadership to shape ambiguous problems into a cohesive, data-informed growth roadmap with measurable outcomes.
  • Use AI agents for planning, coding, review, and triage; critically assess their output and help build shared tools that improve team productivity.
  • Design and oversee A/B tests and experimentation to validate improvements to activation, retention, and community health.
  • Hire, mentor, and develop engineers, and run performance and career-growth processes for the team.

Benefits

  • U.S.-benchmarked compensation globally.
  • Equity in the company with ongoing refresh grants.
  • 35 days of paid time off each year.
  • Benefits package supporting health, wellbeing, and professional growth.
  • Remote work with flexibility and autonomy.
  • Company retreats twice a year in destinations around the world.
