About The Position

The Lead Engineer, Hardware Design works with cross-functional teams, including other designers, customers, manufacturing engineering, and project leadership, to support robust, high-quality product development. The role incorporates feedback from manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design, and simulation reviews, and supports the electrical or mechanical system through manufacturing. For electrical design, the role develops new electrical systems and circuits for various applications, researches system concepts, and documents plans in schematics and system specifications. It tests, simulates, validates, and qualifies systems, making adjustments as needed. For mechanical design, the role develops new mechanical systems and modules and maintains existing designs. It researches mechanical concepts, creates solutions using 3D modeling and simulation software, and completes calculations, testing, validation, and qualification. The position designs and implements technical solutions across two or more technical areas, leads smaller projects, and may coordinate and review other engineers’ work. It interprets customer documentation, develops technical proposals, solves complex problems, and liaises with suppliers, customers, contractors, and internal teams. Duties are performed in a normal office environment, with occasional travel possible.

  • Ability to design, develop, and implement technical solutions in two or more technical areas.
  • For electrical design work: ability to create schematics, bills of material, diagrams, and drawings and to analyze data and prepare documentation.
  • For mechanical design work: ability to prepare calculations and technical drawings and to address tolerance, dimensions, thermal analysis, and structural analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement technical solutions in two or more technical areas.
  • Lead smaller projects and coordinate with other engineers, including reviewing their work.
  • Review and interpret customer documentation; conduct research, analysis, and experiments with minimal direction from senior staff.
  • Create technical proposals outlining solutions and timelines based on requirements.
  • Research system ideas and draw up plans for systems.
  • Design, modify, and implement systems that meet customer and Celestica needs.
  • Create designs in accordance with Celestica procedures, regulations, and customer standards.
  • Keep up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations.
  • Solve complex problems and recommend system modifications.
  • Liaise with suppliers, customers, contractors, and internal teams.
  • For electrical design, create schematics, bills of material, diagrams, and drawings; analyze and interpret data; and create reports and documentation.
  • For mechanical design, calculate proposed solutions before completing technical drawings and develop designs using input from engineers, requirements, and design-for-excellence reviews.
  • Calculate tolerance, dimensions, and thermal and structural analysis factors for mechanical designs.
  • Submit drawings to management, engineering teams, and customers for review.
  • Support the manufacturing process, finalize designs, and send prints to production.
