The Lead Design Systems Engineer will be responsible for the full system engineering execution for the Harvester gasoline Range Extender system, covering the inverter/generator, engine assembly, fuel systems, air induction, and exhaust subsystems for the Scout Traveler SUV and Terra pickup.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering or Engineering Technology. (required)
  • 12+ years of experience managing complex multi-disciplinary engineering projects, with evidence of success bringing programs to life from concept to production
  • Experience with common project/ program management tools such as Gantt charts.
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional environment with colleagues from purchasing, manufacturing, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including accountability, self-motivation, problem solving, analytical thinking, succinct communication and ability to develop & mutually thrive in working relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree
  • Strong Powertrain technical fundamentals, particularly passenger vehicles, trucks and SUVs
  • Experience with design release processes of Powertrain components and systems.
  • Experience with internal combustion engine controls and calibration
  • Understanding of root cause analysis tools like fish bone analysis, Is-Is not, 3L5Y, Red X, etc.
  • Knowledge of powertrain mechanical design principles, system engineering methodologies, CAE methods, GD&T, 3D CAD, 1D simulation, Teamcenter and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the full system engineering execution for the Harvester gasoline Range Extender system underpinning the Scout Traveler SUV and Terra pickup, including the inverter/ generator, engine assembly, fuel systems, air induction, and exhaust subsystems.
  • Conduct regular project reviews, provide technical guidance and support to the powertrain engineering team.
  • Ensure that peer DREs and development/ validation engineers release work products on-time by maintaining schedule and communicating critical milestones.
  • Assist DRE’s in generating detailed system and sub-system technical specifications to ensure functional objectives are met.
  • Identify risks and escalate to leadership where appropriate to raise awareness and drive action.
  • Track and report Range Extender system imperatives including system cost, mass, and investment.
  • Lead critical action plans for identified technical and timing related program risks, and lead recovery plan efforts across multiple cross-functional teams where appropriate.
  • Drive innovation in technology solutions, design and development methods, and advanced materials / manufacturing.
