About The Position

This role is responsible for maintaining a cleaning schedule, ensuring the school/building and grounds are kept neat and clean, and planning and coordinating work schedules for custodial staff. The Lead Custodian will supervise and train custodial staff on proper cleaning techniques, safety procedures, and the use of personal protective equipment. This position also involves monitoring HVAC equipment, ensuring compliance with the Texas Hazardous Communications Act, inspecting the facility for damage, managing inventory of supplies, and reporting any emergency situations or concerns. Additionally, the Lead Custodian is responsible for building security and maintaining positive public relations with staff and administration.

Requirements

  • Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A equivalency) required.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, e-mail and SchoolDude.
  • Skill in managing personnel and supervising custodial building operations.
  • Skill in effectively planning and organizing custodial activities.
  • Skill in cleaning methods and procedures, sanitation, safety, security and building maintenance.
  • Proficient in English (written and verbal skills).
  • Thorough knowledge of custodial equipment.
  • Ability to demonstrate trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, fairness, caring, and citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a cleaning schedule that includes cleaning, dusting, and/or vacuuming of floors, carpeting, walls, whiteboards, trash cans, windows, glass, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
  • Keep school/building and grounds, including entryways, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and play areas neat and clean.
  • Plan, coordinate, prepare work schedules, and supervise both day and night custodial staff according to District custodial procedures.
  • Supervise and assist custodial staff using proper techniques with cleaning inside/outside of District buildings.
  • Provide essential training using the DISD Custodial Training Procedures for Schools and Facilities for new and current employees.
  • Maintain and supervise proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Monitor HVAC equipment for environmental comfort according to established guidelines and directives.
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Hazardous Communications Act, including staff training, safety emphasis, and proper storage, handling, labeling, and application of all chemicals. Maintain Material Safety Data records.
  • Inspect the facility daily for damage; identify and initiate maintenance work orders through SchoolDude. Perform quality control checks and provide status reports.
  • Inspect employee work sections daily to ensure adherence to housekeeping cleaning standards.
  • Perform a monthly inventory of supplies and procure supplies for the facility. Ensure proper storage and usage of all custodial supplies and equipment.
  • Report all emergency situations and problems, maintenance, and safety concerns to appropriate personnel; take appropriate action to ensure adherence to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintain good public relations and communication with coworkers, Principals, Department Heads, and other supervisors.
  • Responsible for securing, by setting appropriate alarms, and closing of building. Responsible for collecting all building keys from the night custodial staff at the end of the work shift.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
  • Wear appropriate custodial uniform and District issued ID Badge to work daily.
  • Perform all other tasks and duties, as assigned by Custodial Services.
