About The Position

The Auburn Municipal Court is seeking a Lead Court Clerk to join their team. This role is crucial for the reopening of the court and offers opportunities for professional growth, problem-solving, public service, and providing stability to court users and stakeholders. The position involves advanced, technical court work and lead-worker responsibilities, serving as a primary technical resource for Court Clerks. This includes providing day-to-day work direction, training, mentoring, workflow coordination, and guidance on court procedures and operating standards. The Lead Court Clerk will also assist Court management with documenting and maintaining procedures, implementing operational changes, resolving complex technical issues, and coordinating special projects. The position performs the full range of Court Clerk duties as operational needs require. It is a lead-worker classification without formal supervisory authority over hiring, discipline, performance evaluation, or other personnel actions. The City of Auburn is conducting this recruitment to establish a qualified hiring pool in anticipation of City Council approval of funding for this position in September 2026. Candidates may participate in the recruitment process before final budget approval, but no appointment will be made until the position and funding are approved. The resulting eligibility/hiring pool may be used to fill this position and similar vacancies.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High school, or equivalent
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible court-related clerical or administrative experience, including substantial journey-level experience performing municipal or district court functions and applying court rules, procedures, and case-processing requirements.
  • Valid Washington state driver's license without pending risk of loss at time of appointment.
  • Must be fingerprinted and complete the CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) Security Certification Test.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a range of duties and responsibilities assigned to the Court Clerk classification and provides Court Clerk coverage as operational needs require.
  • Review work processes and, as assigned, work products for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with established procedures; identifies issues and provides technical guidance or refers matters to Court management as appropriate.
  • Serve as a liaison or technical resource with judges, attorneys, law enforcement, correctional facilities, other courts and jurisdictions, City departments, vendors, and other justice-system partners regarding assigned operational matters.
  • Assist Court management with identifying staffing and coverage needs and communicates approved assignments; elevates staffing, performance, conduct, or other supervisory matters to Court management.
