About The Position

This role requires a Lead Carpenter to lead a crew of 3 to 4 people, with experience in remote Alaska residential remodeling being a plus. The position involves planning work, estimating materials and time, and managing all phases of residential construction. The Lead Carpenter will also interact with the public, manage materials, and understand construction logistics in Rural Alaska. Travel within the region for projects is frequent.

Requirements

  • Supervisory Experience
  • Proof (evidence) of construction supervisory experience – minimum 4 years experience.
  • Provide resume of previous employment with references
  • Show proficiency with residential construction
  • Must have a High school diploma or GED.
  • Four (4) years working in a carpenter position.
  • Must have experience in and knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and use it.
  • Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with a good enough driving record to be insured on the AVCP Vehicle Policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Remote Alaska residential remodeling experiences a plus.
  • Fluency in Yup’ik and English is strongly preferred.
  • Apprenticeship trade in construction or maintenance is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a crew of 3 to 4 people.
  • Study individual job sites, plan work and accurately take off construction material.
  • Estimate amount of work and time required for job.
  • Experience building foundations and leveling buildings.
  • Experience with all phases of residential construction. Installation of windows, doors, Insulation, sealing, flooring siding and roof work.
  • Able to lay out and build stairs.
  • Finish carpentry.
  • Setting cabinets and counter tops.
  • General understanding of electrical and plumbing.
  • Manage materials and supplies as necessary to facilitate the efficient progression of work on the job.
  • Understand construction logistics in Rural Alaska.
  • Prepare project labor coding on timesheets.
  • Work with Human Resources Department, Transportation Director to hire supervisor, discipline, and if necessary fire onsite employees.
  • Interact with the general public maintaining a professional attitude and working relationship.
  • Travels frequently within the region for projects.
