About The Position

Takes a lead role to perform a wide variety of skilled tasks involved in the maintenance and repair of carpentry including minor renovations, painting, door hardware, furniture repair, ICRA installation and maintenance related to the care and maintenance of The Thompson Health System buildings and facilities. Construct, repair and maintain structures such as walls, doors, furniture, cabinets and equipment with in the facility using hand and power tools as assigned. Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain and other finishes and wall coverings to decorate and protect the interior and exterior surfaces, equipment and furniture. Assist with other general maintenance activities as directed.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Ten years in construction/building maintenance field is required.
  • Valid N.Y.S. drivers’ license.
  • Qualified to operate facility vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associates Degree in the construction trades including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC is preferred.
  • Fifteen years in construction/building maintenance field or more is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with other general maintenance activities as directed.
  • Prioritize work in accordance with established standards and policies.
  • Perform preventative and routine maintenance (e.g., equipment service, repairs, installations) accurately, efficiently, and with minimal supervision using plans and instructions.
  • Maintain responsibility for facility keying, signage, and engraving equipment.
  • Interpret blueprints, diagrams, and building design.
  • Complete work orders and documentation accurately and on time.
  • Perform deliveries/pick-ups as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Train and support coworkers and associates in maintenance practices, safety procedures, and proper equipment use.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations.
  • Contribute to continuous operations.
  • Pursue professional growth.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support efficient department function.
