About The Position

Camelot Facility Management is seeking an experienced Lead Building Engineer to assist the Director of Facilities with overseeing facility operations, preventive maintenance programs, and the performance of critical building systems at a state-of-the-art LEED Platinum higher education Facility in Alexandria, VA. This hands-on leadership role requires expertise in HVAC, Building Automation Systems (BAS), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), chillers, boilers, electrical and plumbing systems. Strong knowledge of OSHA compliance procedures and some knowledge on solar and rain harvesting systems will be beneficial, while supporting a team of maintenance professionals and delivering exceptional service to our client. The Lead Building Engineer will assist in overseeing the daily maintenance operations of the facility in conjunction with off campus facilities department while ensuring all preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and system monitoring activities are completed safely, efficiently, and professionally and in accordance with established standards. This role serves as the technical leader on-site, helping troubleshoot complex issues, coordinating maintenance priorities, supporting technicians, and ensuring the building operates reliably for our client and occupants.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of commercial building maintenance, facilities management, or facility engineering experience
  • Experience leading maintenance teams
  • Strong working knowledge of Commercial HVAC systems
  • Strong working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Strong working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Strong working knowledge of Chillers and cooling towers
  • Strong working knowledge of Boilers and hot water systems
  • Strong working knowledge of Electrical distribution systems
  • Strong working knowledge of Plumbing systems
  • Strong working knowledge of Mechanical equipment and controls
  • Strong working knowledge of Life safety systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex building system issues independently
  • Experience administering preventive maintenance programs and work order systems
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, LOTO procedures, and workplace safety practices
  • Comfortable maintaining detailed maintenance records, operating logs, inspections, and compliance documentation
  • Strong customer service orientation and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and facility management software
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of applicable trade school or college and related certificate/degree preferred
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Knowledge of computer systems and use of Microsoft Office products
  • 10-15 years’ previous experience with facility maintenance
  • Must be able to climb/stand on ladders while performing repairs or using various tools
  • Must be able to bend at the knees/practice safe lifting standards often throughout the day
  • Hold applicable trade licensing or certifications required by state or local regulations
  • Must typically be able to lift up to 50 pounds independently
  • Strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
  • Strict adherence to Hot Work Permit processes
  • Strict adherence to Job Safety Analysis (JSA) requirements
  • Strict adherence to OSHA regulations and company safety standards
  • Strict adherence to Safe handling and storage of tools, equipment, and materials
  • Strict adherence to Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Responsibilities

  • Leading and supporting maintenance technicians
  • Prioritizing daily maintenance activities, service requests, and optimizing preventive maintenance program
  • Monitoring and maintaining HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems
  • Troubleshooting complex building system issues and implementing corrective actions
  • Conducting routine inspections of equipment, mechanical rooms, and facility infrastructure
  • Monitoring Building Automation Systems (BAS), energy management systems, and facility controls
  • Performing operational assessments of chillers, boilers, pumps, motors, cooling towers, and other critical equipment
  • Maintaining operating logs, inspections, maintenance records, and compliance documentation
  • Administering and optimizing preventive maintenance programs through CMMS platforms
  • Performing preventive maintenance on critical building equipment and systems
  • Supporting equipment installations, repairs, upgrades, and capital improvement projects
  • Coordinating and overseeing third-party vendors and contractors
  • Managing inventory and spare parts for facility equipment
  • Ensuring all work is completed according to safety procedures, company standards, and client expectations
  • Communicating effectively with clients, tenants, contractors, and internal teams
  • Training, mentoring, and evaluating maintenance personnel to ensure quality workmanship and continuous development
  • Supporting occupant satisfaction by providing timely updates on maintenance requests and work orders
