About The Position
This Lead - Breast Imaging position is responsible for establishing and maintaining systems to monitor and track all suspicious mammography reports, ensuring physician follow-up. This includes notifying physicians of pending recommendations, tracking biopsies, and managing referrals for further imaging. The role involves generating letters to physicians, updating results in the Optima System for patient outcomes, and providing training on the Penrad Tracking System. The Lead serves as a liaison between various stakeholders to ensure high customer satisfaction with mammography services and participates in system-wide and corporate committees. Key responsibilities include preparing monthly cycle time data and Quality Assurance Reports, overseeing quality assurance and control plans to meet regulatory requirements (MQSA, ACR, ACS), and performing daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual quality assurance testing. The position also involves overseeing MQSA Inspections, preparing staff work schedules, allocating resources, managing payroll activities, conducting annual performance reviews, and ensuring appropriate use of various Radiology Information Systems. Additionally, the Lead performs duties of a staff mammography technologist, manages supply procurement, and provides community education and participates in health fairs.
Requirements
- Completion of AMA approved program in Radiologic Technology
- ARRT Registered
- Specialized training and education in mammography positioning, technique selection, and physics
- Ability to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups, mostly age 30 and above; must be able to recognize physical signs of stress, apprehension, and anxiety in patients
- Experienced in the use of analog and all current digital technologies as of 2010.
- ARRT Certification
- IDNS License
- Evidence of specialized training in positioning, compression, technical selection, anatomy and physiology, equipment, quality control, and customer satisfaction training
- CPR Certification
- Continuing Education is mandated by both the Federal and State Governments in order for the technologist to maintain their specialized certification in mammography.
- Technologists are expected to work in a stressful environment that frequently requires educating the patient relative to the advantages and disadvantages of mammography and the current state of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

- Exposure to infectious diseases.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
- Comply with mandatory inservices for Fire Safety, MRI Safety, and Universal Precautions; Maintain CPR Certification.
- Must maintain professional decorum, and adhere to dress code as required by department; no deviations allowed.
Responsibilities
- Establishes a system to monitor and track all suspicious mammography reports to ensure physician follow-up.
- Provides staff training and support on the new Penrad Tracking System.
- Serves as a liaison between the Medical Director, referring physicians, nursing units, department management, and ancillary/support departments.
- Maintains department customer focus by setting an example.
- Participates on Advocate system-wide Mammography Subcommittee.
- Participates as needed on clinical excellence committees at the corporate level.
- Ensures monthly cycle time data is prepared and sent to appropriate people; reviews outcome.
- Prepares monthly department Quality Assurance Reports for Director and Medical Chairman.
- Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of quality assurance and quality control plans sufficient to satisfy all Federal, State, and local governing and regulatory bodies, including all MQSA, ACR, and ACS requirements.
- Responsible for the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual quality assurance testing at the Good Samaritan Hospital and all other offsite centers.
- Oversees MQSA Inspections at both facilities.
- Prepares staff work schedules, and allocates resources appropriate to meet department work load.
- Responsible for completing the payroll activities of the mammography staff via the time and attendance system.
- Performs annual performance reviews on all mammography personnel.
- Responsible for the appropriate use of the Radiology Information System, Radnet, Allegr, Carenet and Penrad Systems for patient demographics, diagnostic reporting, and charge capture.
- Performs the duties of a staff mammography technologist.
- Responsible for the procurement of appropriate supplies used in the Mammography Center.
- Provides community education when requested to do so.
- Participates in community health fairs.
