About The Position

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Lead Behavior Coach will provide supervision and lead therapeutic interventions for students in crisis or as arranged for positive interactions. The Lead Behavior Coach will develop training for support staff and work to identify and teach the skills necessary to support student educational progress, guiding the classroom team to integrate all disciplines into a comprehensive program for each student. This position is 8 hours per day, 194 days per year. Start date will be August 2026. Regular attendance required: This role relies on regular and reliable attendance to ensure consistency for our students and help support a positive, productive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology or job related area.
  • Working knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regulations and procedures.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of academic curriculum aligned with Washington State standards.
  • Recent successful experience working in educational/mental health settings with students who have serious social/emotional or behavioral challenges.
  • Proof of a Bachelor's degree (copy of diploma or transcripts).
  • Work history going back 10 years

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology or equivalent.
  • Experience in non-aversive behavior crisis prevention and intervention.
  • Experience working with other professionals such as counselors, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists as resources for planning and delivery of specially designed programs.
  • Certified by (CPI) Crisis Prevention Institute as instructor of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.
  • Training and/or experience in Functional Behavior Analysis.
  • Training and/or experience in implementation of Positive Behavior Supports.

Responsibilities

  • Manage crisis intervention utilizing therapeutic interventions by providing staff coaching and by maintaining a safe environment for students.
  • Lead in the development of strategies to coordinate the day treatment school with referring districts and interagency partners to implement program models consistent with best practice and state, federal and local legal requirements.
  • Lead in developing programs and/or activities to promote positive student behavior, as well as intervention strategies.
  • Assist the leadership team to determine eligibility and coordinate delivery of appropriate services for new referrals.
  • Work with referred students and their teams to modify behaviors related to lagging skills and promote positive behavior and develop therapeutic interventions.
  • Gather and analyze data related to lagging skills to present to the team as needed.
  • Supervise behavior coaches and other staff as assigned.
  • Assists the program director with professional development of program personnel.
  • Summarize and report all therapeutic and behavior data to the program director.
  • Monitor the data keeping system to ensure that daily data is input correctly and the monthly data due dates are not missed.
  • Provide training to data tracking as needed.
  • Work with students daily in a group setting or individually utilizing Collaborative Problem Solving strategies to support students in developing problem-solving skills.
  • Provide skills training consistent with student IEPs and Behavior Support Plans and facilitate instruction to teach interpersonal conflict resolution.
  • Collaborate with the team to create and implement student safety protocols, follow student behavior plans, and develop safety procedures across school environments.
  • Provide input related to student needs and safety at team meetings to promote student progress.
  • Assist in the referral process by reviewing student behavioral records, Behavior Intervention Plans, Emergency Response Protocols, and data to ensure that team members understand referral students’ needs.
  • Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Work cooperatively with local district and/or private agency administration and staff, fulfilling responsibilities as a member of the school faculty.
  • Assist the program director with evaluation and development, including collecting outcome data, for long term planning.
  • Compile student data required under IDEA or necessary for local, state and federal reporting.
  • Provides for students' personal care needs including feeding, toileting, tube feeding, catheterization, and diaper changing.
  • Provide support to the teacher in the classroom as needed.
  • Given a behavioral escalation, responds to the needs of the students consistent with the behavior support plan and crisis plan.
  • Develop plans for student transitions and coordinates with other program staff in the implementation of the plans.
  • Demonstrate competency in utilization of day treatment approach in de-escalation.
