The Behavior Assistant will support students in following behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and individualized education program (IEP) goals. This role involves providing one-on-one or small group support to students exhibiting challenging behaviors, utilizing reinforcement strategies, de-escalation techniques, and positive behavior supports. The Behavior Assistant will implement behavior strategies developed by behavior specialists or school-based teams, monitor and collect data on student behavior and intervention effectiveness, and provide support during transitions and other situations where students may struggle. This position also assists teachers in managing classroom behavior, promoting a positive learning environment, and modeling effective behavior management techniques. The role includes supporting the implementation of classroom-wide behavior management systems, providing immediate support during behavioral crises following safety protocols, and assisting in maintaining a calm and safe environment. Documentation of student behavior and progress, reporting observations to relevant staff, and participating in team meetings are key responsibilities. The Behavior Assistant will also attend training sessions and stay informed on best practices in supporting students with behavioral needs, collaborating with BCBA, teachers, school counselors, and administrators. Communication with parents and guardians may be required under the guidance of the behavior team, while maintaining professional and respectful interactions with the school community.
