About The Position

The Electronic Warfare and Novel Capabilities Group (EWNC) develops advanced signal processing algorithms and prototype systems for next-generation radar and electronic warfare technologies. The group investigates emerging technologies and collaborates with engineers across sectors and divisions, as well as academic and industry partners, to develop practical solutions for RF sensing and counter-sensing challenges. The Lead Algorithm & Signal Processing Researcher will develop state-of-the-art algorithms and techniques for sense making and sensor decision making. Work may address signal detection and classification, electronic support measures, electronic attack and protection, cognitive electronic warfare, and related capabilities. The role focuses on transitioning advanced research into operational prototype systems and may involve leading small teams and projects. Applicants aligned with the requirements are encouraged to apply at multiple experience levels. Opportunities are available in Woburn, Massachusetts, and Dayton, Ohio. The position requires the ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance. U.S. citizenship is needed to obtain the clearance. STR is an equal opportunity employer and provides reasonable accommodation during the employment process. Positions require employees to obtain national security clearances and satisfy applicable export-control and other legal requirements.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5–7+ years of relevant work experience depending on degree: BS plus 7 years or MS plus 5 years.
  • Experience in two or more of the following areas: RF/radar signal processing, optimization, waveform design, electronic warfare, machine learning, adaptive signal processing, AI/ML algorithm development, algorithm development, test and evaluation, modeling and simulation, systems engineering, test engineering, radar modeling, or RF systems prototyping.
  • Proficiency in one or more scientific or mathematical programming languages, such as MATLAB, Python, and C/C++.
  • Strong mathematical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for the clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Active security clearance.
  • Experience with RF technologies in the defense sector, particularly sensing and electronic-warfare applications, including electronic attack, electronic protection, cognitive EW, and advanced electronic support measures techniques and algorithms.
  • Experience with machine-learning tasks such as natural language processing, image recognition, semantic segmentation, or reinforcement learning; approaches such as Bayesian, deep convolutional, and graph neural network methods; and tools such as PyTorch, Ray, TensorFlow, and MLflow.
  • Experience interacting with decision-makers and customers to translate mission needs into an end-to-end analytical solution.
  • Ability to apply novel, innovative, and interdisciplinary approaches to challenging engineering problems.
  • Ability to create and present briefings to customers and senior management, explaining solutions at both high-level and deep technical levels.

Responsibilities

  • Design and apply signal-processing and machine-learning techniques to address radar and RF sensing and counter-sensing challenges.
  • Design and implement models and simulations for advanced RF systems.
  • Lead small teams and projects.
  • Support business-development and proposal-writing efforts.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams to deploy capabilities to prototype systems.
  • Develop algorithms and techniques for sense making and sensor decision making, including signal detection and classification, electronic support measures, electronic attack and protection, and cognitive electronic warfare.
