About The Position

The Lead Inspector is responsible to the Chief Inspector for the determination of the airworthiness of assigned work. This role involves assisting, supervising, and directing all personnel assigned to the inspection department. The Lead Inspector must ensure that all inspections are properly performed and that all completed work is released to the customer with the correct inspection records, reports, and forms properly executed. They are also responsible for maintaining a file system for work orders and inspection forms, performing periodic checks and calibration of inspection tools and precision test equipment, and ensuring that shelf-life materials are properly controlled and removed from service when expired. The Lead Inspector must be properly certificated in accordance with FAR Part 65. In their absence, duties may be delegated, but overall responsibility remains with the Lead Inspector. The role also includes performing special assignments and projects as directed by the Chief Inspector.

Requirements

  • High School/GED
  • A&P License
  • At least 8 years of experience or greater in area of responsibility
  • 5 years or more experience as an aircraft A&P Mechanic
  • Several years’ prior Inspector work experience with quality systems that meet FAA requirements
  • Experience working with and interpreting precision measurement instruments
  • Advanced Knowledge of all possible tasks and responsibilities within their technical area
  • Strong understanding of External Regulations and Functional Work Standards that affect Technical Requirements and Outputs
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repairs and maintenance
  • Quality Control Analysis — Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
  • Troubleshooting — Identify the causes of operating errors and determine the appropriate solution
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
  • Knowledge of FAA requirements for aircraft maintenance procedures
  • Ability to interpret and comprehend manufacturer and FAA approved work package instructions
  • Ability to inspect and install parts/components
  • Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations
  • Must have the ability to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 'Respirator Protection' regulations with no restrictions that would prevent the proper use and/or seal of the respirator

Responsibilities

  • Assist, supervise, and direct all personnel assigned to the inspection department.
  • Ascertain that all inspections are properly performed and all completed work is released to the customer.
  • Ensure proper inspection records, reports, and forms are properly executed.
  • Collect and maintain a file on work orders and inspection forms.
  • Perform periodic checks on all inspection tools and calibration of precision test equipment.
  • Develop and maintain a system for records of checks and calibration of inspection tools and precision test equipment.
  • Ensure established check periods for tools and equipment are not exceeded.
  • Properly execute Forms FAA 337 and maintenance release pertinent to all items released to service.
  • Perform preliminary, hidden damage, inspection continuity, and final inspection of all items processed.
  • Ensure proper tagging and identification of all parts.
  • Ensure rejected and unserviceable parts are returned to the customer or properly disposed of.
  • Ensure metallurgical tests are performed when necessary to ensure airworthiness or determine cause of failure.
  • Ensure all materials subject to shelf life are properly controlled, inspected, and removed from service when expired.
  • Perform special assignments and projects as directed by the Chief Inspector.
