This role is for a Lawyer, General Counsel Office, responsible for supporting the General Counsel in all aspects of risk management and the Firm's compliance policies and procedures. The incumbent will be tasked with supporting the General Counsel in drafting and updating Firm policies, reviewing contracts, researching risk management and ethics questions, and answering risk management and ethics questions from lawyers and staff members.

Requirements

  • Licensed LLB / JD and in good standing.
  • 5+ years relevant experience in a Risk Management role at a large law firm or in-house or equivalent.
  • Bilingualism in French.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills and be able to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently with a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Substantive working knowledge of the Rules of Professional Conduct.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills.
  • Working understanding of large law firm processes and procedures, as well as general familiarity with the various practice areas of the firm.
  • Effective time management and the ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with legal research and writing.
  • Familiarity with business organizational/governance/ownership models, structures, and interrelationships.

Responsibilities

  • Support the General Counsel in duties related to compliance, ethics and regulatory issues.
  • Support the General Counsel in the updating of risk related policies.
  • Provide professional development training on risk management.
  • Review and provide comments on Firm’s contracts with vendors.
  • Perform legal research and prepare memoranda relating to professional responsibility and risk management.
  • Support our Manager, Conflicts and Risk Management on legal questions.
  • Other duties as required.
