About The Position

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a highly motivated person to join her team as a Paralegal to assist the General Counsel’s Office in managing responses to public records requests throughout the Office and handling other selected projects. Primary Duties : Under the direction of the General Counsel’s Office (GCO), coordinate, facilitate, and track timely and appropriate responses to public records requests received by the Attorney General’s Office (AGO). General duties include providing administrative support to the GCO and AGO attorneys in public records and records retention. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Processing intakes and performing preliminary analysis for incoming public records requests. Collaborating with the AGO divisions to identify, review, and assemble responsive records. Monitoring status of outstanding public records requests. Assisting in coordinating selected responses with Communications team and preparing draft response letters. Assisting with the identification and redaction of confidential, privileged, private, or exempt documents. Maintaining information in a systematic way and performing measures to substantiate compliance with the Public Records Law, AGO standards, and records retention requirements. Collaborating with IT to maintain and update systems to support the functions of the office. Communicating with public records requestors. Conducting basic legal research and analysis. Coordinating and presenting trainings to colleagues. Overseeing the GCO’s co-op/ intern. Perform other administrative duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with staff and communicate respectfully with members of the public.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (including word processing, database, and spreadsheet software programs), and ability to learn case management software.
  • Ability to convey information concisely and accurately both in writing and verbally.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a complex records and information environment involving the interpretation and application of rules, regulations, and policies, and demonstrate skill with technology, as well as an openness to embrace emerging technology and to find technical and systematic solutions to issues.
