Position Summary The Paralegal, General Counsel’s Office (“Paralegal, GCO”) is responsible for assisting the General Counsel team with responsibilities pertaining to new hires and new client matters, including new hire and new matter conflicts review, implementing and monitoring ethical walls, and supporting compliance with engagement letter requirements. The position will be part of the Office of General Counsel, with frequent direct interaction with the Senior Conflicts Attorney and the Assistant and Associate General Counsel, and will communicate with partners and associates to assist with conflicts clearance. Given the nature of the firm’s work, the Paralegal, GCO must be available outside normal office hours and flexible with respect to evening and weekend work as circumstances require.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze lateral attorney and non-attorney staff conflicts reports (which are based on prior work experience).
  • Communicate with lateral candidates and relevant attorneys.
  • Draft conflicts waiver request letters.
  • Consult with Managing Attorney to ensure appropriate notifications to government agencies and courts, as appropriate.
  • Implement and monitor ethical walls in connection with new firm business, lateral attorney candidate conflicts, and ad hoc requests.
  • Review engagement terms with new and existing firm clients to ensure compliance with engagement letter rules.
  • Address gaps in applicable engagement terms with the responsible attorney and Assistant and Associate General Counsel as needed.
  • Assist with special projects and other responsibilities relating to the conflicts process, as needed.
