About The Position

Ray, Post, Young, & Barbich House Counsel for Chubb in Pennsylvania, is currently seeking an Employment Law Paralegal for its location in Philadelphia, PA. Under the direction of counsel, duties shall include preparing and sending Litigation Hold Memos, sending MMSEA requests, sending initial document requests, managing discovery (service and answering), preparing interrogatories and requests for production of documents, monitoring discovery responses, advising attorneys on received discovery, formatting responses, preparing general objections, drafting responses for attorney review, working with clients to ensure timely receipt of documents/answers, setting up interrogatories with objections, requesting extensions for discovery responses, drafting position statements, assembling/redacting exhibits, assembling/organizing/labeling documents in ProLaw, drafting initial disclosures, pulling expert information, requesting medical records, ordering and monitoring medical record requests, following up with document management companies, advising document management companies to stop work, handling expert subpoenas, performing docket searches, sending FOIA requests, responsible for billing, electronic filing, preparing case files for trial, updating data and documenting communications, and utilizing AI where necessary. Requirements

  • Paralegal certificate or equivalent experience
  • Experience with ProLaw
  • Familiarity with MMSEA requirements
  • Experience with discovery process (service and answering Interrogatories and Requests for Production of Documents)
  • Experience drafting legal documents
  • Experience with electronic filing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and send Litigation Hold Memo to client
  • Send MMSEA – request social security number from client and provide to claims
  • Send initial document request via email (at attorney discretion)
  • Discovery – service and answering
  • Prepare Interrogatories and Request for Production of Documents to Plaintiff and serve on counsel
  • Monitor plaintiff’s responses to discovery. If overdue, send overdue letter.
  • Advise attorney once discovery is received and send discovery requests to client ASAP
  • Complete Request for Production of Documents
  • Format responses, send to client, preparation of general objections and draft responses for review by attorney; work directly with client to ensure receipt of documents/answers to request for production of documents in a timely manner.
  • Set up Interrogatories with general objections and certain specific objections for attorneys’ review and completion
  • Request extension prior to discovery due date if additional time is needed to respond
  • Draft Position Statements (at attorney discretion)
  • Assemble/redact exhibits for Position Statements
  • Assemble, organize and label documents received from clients in ProLaw
  • Draft Initial Disclosures in Federal cases.
  • Pull expert information and request medical records upon receipt of Plaintiff’s Initial Disclosures
  • Order and monitor medical record requests
  • Follow-up with Ontellus (or other document management company), as necessary
  • Advise Ontellus (or other document management company) to stop work once a case has been resolved
  • Expert subpoenas (not depositions).
  • Perform docket search after receipt of 90 day dismissals
  • Send FOIA requests to EEOC/PHRC/Unemployment Compensation when a case transfers from agency to litigation
  • Responsible for billing the appropriate file as work is performed
  • Responsible for electronic filing of court pleadings
  • Responsible for preparing the case file for trial proceedings
  • Responsible for updating data and documenting communications in case file
  • Responsible for utilizing AI where necessary
