In-House Counsel

Hoskinson BiotechnologyGillette, WY
$150,000 - $210,000

About The Position

We are seeking an experienced, litigation-focused In-House Counsel to serve as the primary legal advisor across a diverse portfolio of related business entities. We need a self-directed advocate who identifies legal risks and opportunities before they land on anyone's desk, takes ownership of matters from intake through resolution, and represents the organization's interests forcefully and without hesitation. The right candidate thrives with minimal oversight, sets their own priorities based on business impact, and keeps leadership informed — not the other way around. A strong employment law background is essential: this role is the organization's first line of defense on workforce matters, including agency charges and complaints.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing; Wyoming licensure or eligibility for admission (including via UBE score transfer or reciprocity) required
  • 6+ years of litigation experience, with substantial first-chair or lead-counsel responsibility in commercial, employment, or healthcare disputes
  • Strong employment law background, including direct experience defending EEOC charges and state agency complaints — drafting position statements, handling agency mediation and investigations, and litigating employment claims when they proceed
  • Demonstrated record of favorable outcomes in contested matters — trials, arbitrations, dispositive motions, or high-stakes settlements
  • Proven ability to run a legal function independently: prioritizing a full docket, managing deadlines, and driving matters to conclusion without supervision
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills with a direct, no-nonsense communication style

Nice To Haves

  • Prior in-house experience, ideally supporting multiple related entities or a holding company structure

Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead counsel or directly manage outside counsel on all litigation, arbitration, and pre-litigation disputes across portfolio entities
  • Develop and execute aggressive, cost-effective litigation strategies designed to protect the organization's interests and deter frivolous claims
  • Handle demand letters, settlement negotiations, mediations, and administrative proceedings with a strong command of leverage and positioning
  • Manage litigation holds, discovery, and e-discovery processes end to end
  • Own the defense of EEOC charges and state agency complaints end-to-end: position statements, responses to requests for information, mediation and conciliation, and coordination through any resulting litigation
  • Advise on terminations, separations, discipline, and reductions in force to minimize charge and claim exposure before action is taken
  • Counsel leadership on discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage-and-hour, and accommodation issues under federal and state law
  • Direct internal investigations of employee complaints and ensure findings are documented in a defensible manner
  • Maintain and update employment policies, handbooks, and agreements to keep them compliant and enforceable
  • Proactively identify legal exposure across business units and bring solutions
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements including vendor contracts, leases, MOUs, service agreements, and independent contractor arrangements
  • Build and maintain contract templates and playbooks so routine matters move fast
  • Advise on entity governance, corporate structure, and intercompany matters
  • Select, direct, and hold outside counsel accountable on budget and results
  • Respond to subpoenas, government inquiries, and regulatory correspondence

Benefits

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus benefits package. Details provided during the interview process.
