About The Position

An Osage Nation Tribal Police Officer is assigned to field duty, which consists of both routine and complex Law Enforcement responsibilities. General functions of the job include reporting and documentation; preservation of public safety, arrest and detention of offenders, peace and security of the Osage Nation Reservation as well as providing assistance to other agencies as requested.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Requires 1 year of experience in Law Enforcement
  • Peace Officer Certification by Oklahoma Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) or Bureau of Indian Affairs Police Academy (IPA) required
  • If certified under another State, it is required to become certified in Oklahoma within (6) months-CLEET (classroom availability)
  • Must have general working knowledge of Law Enforcement processes and working with the public
  • Must pass a background check complying with the standards set forth in 25 CFR 63, PL 101-630 and PL 101-647
  • Must be able to obtain a Special Law Enforcement Commission through the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must not have felony or domestic abuse convictions
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have clear and concise speech and the ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
  • Must react quickly and effectively to stressful situations
  • Must have a current physical and be able to pass a physical agility test
  • Must be able to pass a psychological evaluation
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays (subject to call out anytime)
  • Must be able to work independently with a high degree of self-discipline, integrity, and decision-making ability
  • Must have knowledge about corrections, identification, warrant or process serving, investigations, communications, juvenile procedures, community service, property management and training
  • Requires a high level of personal integrity and ethics
  • Requires a high level of problem-solving skills
  • Requires willingness and ability to learn new skills, including travel to conferences and training sessions
  • Requires ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs, as well as Police reporting software.
  • Requires good interpersonal communication and team work skills
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record – may be required to drive GSA or tribal vehicle
