About The Position

The Corporation of the Town of Tecumseh is currently recruiting for a highly motivated individual to fill the position of By-Law Enforcement Officer. Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief – Compliance, the By-Law Enforcement Officer is responsible for the enforcement of various municipal by-laws, site plan and development agreements. Responsibilities include investigating complaints of infractions, conducting site visits, consulting with complainants and property owners, issuing compliance orders, conducting follow up inspections, obtaining evidence, laying charges, attending court, and supervising the clean-up of properties.

Requirements

  • Have a valid Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Knowledge and experience in By-laws, applicable provincial and federal statutes and regulations, rules of evidence, and property rights including the following: Freedom of Information and Privacy Legislation, Municipal Act, Planning Act, Provincial Offenses Act, Ontario Building Code Act, Ontario Evidence Act.
  • Knowledge of enforcement and courtroom procedures and prosecutions.
  • Must be willing to complete the Ontario Building Code - General Legal exam to obtain BCIN designation.
  • University degree or College diploma in Law Enforcement or a related program AND a minimum of three (3) years’ experience employed in law enforcement or related field OR a minimum of ten (10) years experience in law enforcement or a related field

Nice To Haves

  • Municipal Law Enforcement Officer Certification from the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers' Association or a Certified Property Standards Officer Designation from the Ontario Association of Property Standards Officers is preferred.
  • Membership in good standing with the Ontario Association of Property Standards Officers is preferred.
  • Training in conflict resolution would be an asset.
