About The Position

Lerners is seeking a Law Clerk to support our Plaintiff Personal Injury practice group in the Toronto, Ontario office. The ideal candidate will have over three (3) years of experience working in a similar position. This is a hybrid position and requires a minimum of three (3) days per week in the office. Lerners provides a full range of legal services throughout Southwestern Ontario and maintains an attractive work environment with excellent support services and state-of-the-art technology. Requirements

  • Law Clerk Diploma or equivalent education and experience.
  • At least three (3) years of experience as a Law Clerk in a litigation environment; Plaintiff Personal Injury experience is an asset.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and experience with legal document management systems (e.g. Primafact, OneDrive); familiarity with legal research tools and case management software (e.g. Amicus, ACL, Relativity) are assets.
  • Demonstrates initiative by anticipating needs, taking ownership of tasks, and offering solutions.
  • Uses discretion and critical thinking to make sound decisions.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple files simultaneously.
  • Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of litigation processes.
  • Experience working with technology in a hybrid environment.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Exercises discretion when handling sensitive information and interacts with clients and external parties with professionalism and respect.

Responsibilities

  • Manage personal injury files for both tort and accident benefit claims throughout their lifecycle, ensuring documents are accurately saved, organized, and maintained in accordance with firm protocols.
  • Prepare, draft, format, and review legal documents, including court materials, applications, correspondence, hearing-related documentation.
  • Act as a liaison between lawyers, clients, and external parties, ensuring timely communication and follow‑up.
  • Coordinate the collection, review, and organization of supporting documentation from clients, medical providers, insurers, and third parties.
  • Prepare summaries of medical and other records, create medical chronologies, identify key issues, and manage client productions and undertakings.
  • Assist with trial and hearing preparation, including case books, chronologies, evidence summaries, and related materials.
  • Maintain accurate and well‑organized electronic file management, ensuring documents are properly saved and tracked.
  • Implement and maintain an effective bring‑forward (BF) system to track deadlines, commitments, and follow‑ups.
  • Track time spent on files accurately and consistently.
  • Use professional judgment and knowledge of the file to suggest next steps and identify potential issues.
  • Independently applying approved AI tools to improve efficiency and quality of work, exercising judgment in determining appropriate use cases, and ensuring outputs meet professional standards before use or distribution.
  • Perform other duties as required.
