About The Position

The J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University (BYU Law) is seeking an Adjunct Faculty Member to teach a course on e-discovery. This course will introduce students to issues involving electronic discovery and the electronic storage of information, emphasizing the impact of the digital age on law. Students will examine relevant statutes, regulations, and case law concerning the management of electronic information, as well as strategies for proactive data management to mitigate risks and costs. The role includes practical exercises and the use of eDiscovery software. The faculty member will not be required to attend department meetings but will need to dedicate time outside of class to address student questions. The teaching schedule is to be determined based on the applicant's availability.

Requirements

  • JD required, completed by the start date.
  • Active member of the Utah Bar.
  • Knowledge of the e-discovery topic.
  • Significant teaching experience.
  • Must relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of employment.
  • Attach updated curriculum vitae, cover letter, and Mission Alignment Statement to the application.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a course on e-discovery, covering electronic discovery and information storage.
  • Introduce students to the impact of the digital age on law, including IT basics.
  • Examine statutes, regulations, and case law related to electronic information management (identification, preservation, collection, processing, hosting, review, production).
  • Analyze methods for proactive data management to reduce privacy, security, and litigation risks and costs.
  • Provide hands-on experience through practical exercises and software utilization for litigation or eDiscovery tasks.
  • Address student questions related to the class outside of scheduled teaching times.
