About The Position

Brisbane Grammar School is seeking a reliable and hardworking Laundry Assistant to support the daily operations of its Boarding House Laundry. The role ensures boarders’ clothing, uniforms and linen are processed efficiently and hygienically, and returned in excellent condition. It requires attention to detail, discretion, and a commitment to caring for students’ personal items, while also supporting school functions when required. The Laundry Assistant works in a school environment and maintains high standards of garment care, cleanliness, organisation, hygiene, infection control and workplace health and safety. The role also includes traffic control during school drop-off and pick-up times.

Requirements

Previous experience in a laundry, boarding school, hospitality or similar environment.
Strong attention to detail, particularly when handling individual student items.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically active role.
Good organisational and time-management skills.
Understanding of safe work practices and manual handling.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.
Respectful of student privacy and belongings.
Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Flexible and able to adapt to changing daily priorities, including post-event workloads.
Good communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Experience or confidence with ironing and fabric care is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Sort, wash, dry, fold and distribute boarders’ clothing and linen.
Identify and manage individual student items and labelling accurately.
Operate laundry equipment safely and efficiently, including washers, dryers and ironing equipment.
Iron uniforms and garments to a high presentation standard.
Carry out clothing repairs and attach labels.
Wash and iron tablecloths, linens and other items following school and boarding events.
Ensure uniforms are cleaned and prepared to a high standard for daily school use.
Inspect items for damage, stains or wear and report issues as required.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the laundry facility.
Follow hygiene, infection control and workplace health and safety procedures.
Manage laundry volumes to meet daily boarding house demands.
Assist with stock control of laundry supplies, including detergents.
Work with boarding staff to ensure timely service delivery.
Provide traffic control during school drop-off and pick-up times.
Carry out other duties as required.
