About The Position

The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Technician is part of Blue Origin Operations’ Orbital Launch Site Test Operations team within the Launch Site Execution branch. The role installs, tests, troubleshoots, and maintains instrumentation and control systems supporting launch and test operations. Work contributes to system readiness, facility reliability, and launch execution at Launch Complex 36 and nearby locations, including Launch Complexes 11 and 12, Merritt Island Launch Annex, and NASA Stennis B-2 test locations. Technicians work alongside engineers to build and sustain the ground infrastructure needed for New Glenn launch operations. The position supports the design, build, integration, and sustainment of ground systems, test assets, and launch facilities across multiple sites. Work includes system checkout and maintenance before, during, and after test campaigns; installation and commissioning of automated control systems; and safe, procedure-driven execution of assigned tasks. Shifts are Monday–Thursday or Friday–Sunday, with day and night options. The role is based on Florida’s Space Coast, relocation is available, and travel may be up to 25% for offsite test campaigns when applicable. Candidates are expected to bring relevant hands-on skills and experience, work effectively with engineers and teammates, and follow established safety practices. The job requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and work at heights up to 125 feet, including climbing ladders and stairs. The technician must be willing to obtain SCBA and SCAPE training and certification for hypergolic propellant operations.

  • Relevant instrumentation and controls experience in aerospace, industrial, automotive, or oil and gas environments, or experience completing or maintaining launch pad, test stand, or high-hazard facility systems, or equivalent. Level I: 0–3 years; Level II: 3+ years; Level III: 5+ years; Level IV: 8+ years.
  • Ability to interpret and follow electrical diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with PLCs and experience installing or troubleshooting instrumentation such as valve positioners, thermocouples, pressure transducers, and general electronics.
  • Experience with 24 VDC control circuits, 4–20 mA control loops, and 120V, 208V, and 480V electrical systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently as a self-starter.
  • Strong attention to detail and experience in pre-job planning and layout.
  • Mechanical proficiency, proper use of hand tools, and adherence to safe work practices.

  • Journeyman Electrical License.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, check out, and verify instrumentation and control systems on test stands and ground support equipment before, during, and after hotfire and tanking campaigns.
  • Perform pre- and post-test sensor and loop checks on valve positioners, thermocouples, pressure transducers, and 4–20 mA loops.
  • Support propellant offload and transfer operations by operating, monitoring, and troubleshooting associated control systems.
  • Perform turnaround activities between campaigns to return test stands to a test-ready configuration and help identify ways to reduce turnaround time.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and document anomalies in coordination with Test Conductors and engineers.
  • Wire, commission, and debug automated control systems.
