Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Technician

NAES•Bremond, TX
•$35 - $49•Onsite

About The Position

The Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Technician supports safe, reliable, and efficient operations at Major Oak Power Station by maintaining, calibrating, testing, and troubleshooting plant instrumentation, control systems, and automation equipment. The position supports the CFB boiler, steam turbine-generator, combustion processes, emissions-control systems, and auxiliary equipment through preventive and corrective maintenance. It also provides limited electrical troubleshooting support for instrumentation and control circuits, coordinating broader electrical repairs with Electrical Technicians. The Technician works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Electrical Technicians, Engineering, contractors, and original equipment manufacturer representatives on maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, installations, commissioning, outages, control-system modifications, capital projects, and equipment improvements. The position reports directly to the IC&E Manager and receives general direction from plant management. The work is performed in a power plant environment that may involve confined spaces, narrow areas, elevated work, hazardous materials, fumes, extreme temperatures, high heat, noise, and varying outdoor weather. Protective equipment may be required. The schedule is four days of ten hours, with occasional extended hours, flexible shifts, weekends, holidays, callouts, and on-call duty. All personnel participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, including a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Requirements

  • Experience in power generation or a comparable industrial environment, preferably involving instrumentation, process controls, industrial automation, or equipment troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of industrial instrumentation and control devices, including transmitters, sensors, control valves, actuators, analyzers, and related process-control equipment.
  • Ability to install, calibrate, test, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation and control systems in an industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with PLC, DCS, and SCADA platforms and their application to boiler controls, combustion systems, burner management, steam turbine controls, equipment protection, and process monitoring.
  • Proficiency in interpreting instrument loop diagrams, electrical and instrumentation schematics, P&IDs, technical drawings, and equipment documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical principles and control circuits, with the ability to perform limited troubleshooting within the position's scope and coordinate more extensive work with Electrical Technicians.
  • Ability to evaluate equipment performance, interpret process data and alarms, identify potential causes of instrumentation or control-system failures, and support corrective actions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including maintaining accurate technical records and coordinating maintenance activities.
  • Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license that remains in good standing.
  • Ability to meet the stated physical requirements, including standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, working at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Participation in the Fitness for Duty Program, including a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.
