About The Position

The University of Florida Large Animal Hospital is recruiting 2-3 Veterinary Assistants. This is a position that requires a motivated, well-organized, and caring individual along with the ability to stand for long periods of time and frequent kneeling and lifting of 50 lbs. Experience in handling horses is preferred, but experience with other large farm animal species will be considered. As a member of our staff, this individual will provide assistance for client services, help veterinary technicians with patient handling and restraint, supply stock, care for equipment, and clean.

Requirements

Must possess the physical ability to handle, manipulate and restrain large animals
Able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Frequent kneeling
Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs, bend, kneel, pull, push, twist and stand for an extended period of time

Nice To Haves

Experience in handling horses is preferred
Experience with other large farm animal species will be considered

Responsibilities

Move, handle and restrain patients, including loading and unloading from transport
Admit and discharge patients
Escort visiting clients
Feed, hand walk, graze, and groom patients
Set up, break down, and clean equipment and exam areas
Clean stalls and maintain a clean/sanitary and functionally organized clinical service area
Maintain supply inventory and replenish stock
Laundry
Utilize chemical cleaning and disinfection agents in a safe manner
Monitor, record, and report physical signs of patients
Administer topical treatments and hydrotherapy
Assist in minor procedures and treatments
Collect samples (including Salmonella) and submit lab requests
Verify and enter charges into computerized medical record
Collect payments/deposits
