About The Position

The Large Animal Hospital Assistant Manager - Operations is responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of the large animal hospital. This includes managing support staff, maintaining facilities and grounds, managing inventory, and assisting with patient care under the direction of veterinary medical staff. The role requires a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and on-call duties, and may involve travel between hospital locations. This position is considered essential personnel and may be required to report to work during campus closures.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree and four years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of relevant experience.
  • Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs, bend, kneel, pull, push, twist and stand for an extended period of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in an environment that required handling and restraining horses daily.
  • Previous experience supervising workers.
  • Previous experience handling other large farm animals.
  • At least one year of experience utilizing equipment in farm facility maintenance.
  • Minimum and Preferred qualifications as listed above, experience within the past 2 years.
  • Minimum and Preferred qualifications as listed above, experience within a veterinary hospital setting.
  • General understanding of equipment used in a veterinary medical teaching hospital.
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, schedule, assist, and provide oversight of Large Animal Support Staff to maintain a clean/sanitary and functionally organized clinical service area in accordance with hospital protocols and Bio-Security directives.
  • Perform cleaning, stripping, scrubbing, and disinfecting of stalls, hallways, and procedure areas, utilizing chemical cleaning and disinfection agents safely.
  • Manage loading, handling, and disposal of trash, bio waste, and hazardous material.
  • Assist with the induction and recovery of anesthetized patients.
  • Maintain, order, and manage supply inventory and replenishment of stock, including sanitation supplies, fuel, shavings, feed, and hay.
  • Keep facilities in good condition (making repairs as needed), and maintain hospital, barns, fences, and grounds in an attractive, sanitary, and functional manner appropriate for public visitation.
  • Proactively monitor grounds, including weed and pest management, mowing pastures, fertilizing, dragging, and watering grounds as needed.
  • Notify Veterinary Hospital Management of any facilities or equipment in need of repair.
  • Arrange, perform, and track maintenance service checks and repairs to assigned equipment.
  • Under the direction of Veterinary Medical staff, assist with feeding, grooming, restraining, or exercising patients and administer topical medications and hydrotherapy, including loading and unloading.
