About The Position

As the company’s newest Landscape Manager, your primary goal is to make sure our clients are thrilled with the work your team does. The right person for this position is someone with extensive landscaping, or horticultural experience; someone who has led a bilingual English/Spanish-speaking team and who wants to serve as “La Jefa” or “El Jefe.” Ideally, she/they/he has worked on landscaping- and hardscaping-related projects in Northern California and understands the equipment and crew needed to plant, maintain or remove a wide variety of species ranging from shrubs, hedges, and screens to perennials, grasses, flowers, and trees. Our new Landscape Manager will be an experienced mentor; someone who genuinely enjoys coaching, training, and celebrating the growth and success of their staff.

Requirements

  • Worked in the landscaping industry for 5+ years, ideally as a Landscape Manager or Foreman/Foreperson.
  • People management skills and experience. Natural mentor/trainer who enjoys helping others advance their professional careers.
  • Strong computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.), familiar with calendar management, clerical tasks, and able to learn billing and timekeeping software.
  • Ability to create your own estimates/bids and be responsible for delivering them to clients.
  • Enjoy communicating effectively and professionally with a wide variety of folks including clients, colleagues, and vendors.
  • Customer-facing experience. Worked with clients, homeowners, contractors, sub-contractors, etc. and enjoy establishing rapport.
  • Hardworking. Will always be available by phone as needed.
  • Clean CA DL. Have a clean and current California Driver’s License and will be able to drive a company vehicle to job sites.
  • Physically fit and able to hustle. Must be able to work at a brisk pace at least 6+ hours per day. Must also be able to ascend/descend stairs, tromp through forests, vineyards, and/or wilderness to evaluate projects, and lift equipment that weighs +/-40 pounds onto truck beds.
  • ABW/Always Be Working. Moves quickly, gets a great deal of work done, and uses software or a demonstrated system to track tasks/daily to-dos. Has a good sense of what it takes to keep an entire team running efficiently and knows when to request assistance.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Start time is 6:15 a.m. on site, so need to arrive by +/- 6:00 A.M. and may need to hold phone meetings with our CEO even earlier.
  • Must have a CURRENT and CLEAN CALIFORNIA driver’s license, be able to drive or have transportation to remote sites: forests, fields, streams, etc.
  • Uncomfortable using a port-a-potty as their primary loo.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as your team’s point of contact for our clients, landscape foreman/fore-people, the billing/job costing group, arborists/estimators, your recruiting team, our residential scheduler, Director of Field Operations and CEO.
  • Visit client’s properties throughout the Greater Bay Area as assigned by our Scheduler to develop project estimates, maintenance contracts, and special projects bids
  • Learn about the East Bay’s Fire Hazard Zones and create bids for upcoming projects
  • Walk clients through solutions to landscaping issues and/or proactively suggest P.H.C. (Plant Health Care) measures that could solve their issues
  • Interview crew candidates, write performance reviews, coach team members who are lacking specific hard or soft skills, and serve as the point-person for all H.R. or payroll-related issues including helping train crew to use the time-keeping application on their phone
  • Work alongside our Plant Health Care Specialist to ensure you are up to date on the most recent non-toxic solutions we have to offer
  • Line your crew out daily: Meet them each morning to outline the day’s work. Produce and distribute work production/progress reports to foremen/fore-people
  • Train and mentor the staff you oversee; provide weekly positive feedback for jobs well done, and determine what went wrong when projects went over time or over budget.
  • Lead safety meetings and serve as the point-person for field-related training
  • Train staff on plant identification, pruning techniques, fertilization practices and P.H.C. (Plant Health Care) solutions that may include low-toxicity pesticides
  • Work on special projects as requested by the CEO
