About The Position

St. Matthew's House is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to providing housing, food, recovery services, and support programs that transform lives throughout Southwest Florida. The Landscape Foreman plays a critical role in maintaining the appearance, safety, and functionality of multiple St. Matthew's House properties throughout Southwest Florida. Reporting to the Vice President of Social Enterprises, the Landscape Foreman is responsible for leading and supervising landscape crew members, coordinating daily grounds maintenance activities, ensuring high-quality workmanship, and maintaining attractive and safe outdoor environments across all assigned properties. This position may also oversee and coordinate the work of contractors to ensure services are completed safely, efficiently, and according to organizational standards. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who demonstrates strong technical landscaping knowledge, effective team leadership, and a commitment to supporting the mission and values of St. Matthew's House.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of landscaping practices, lawn care, planting, pruning irrigation systems and grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to operate and oversee the safe use of commercial landscaping equipment.
  • Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple properties and projects simultaneously.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of landscaping, grounds maintenance or related experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year supervisory or crew leadership experience.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier loads with assistance.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in heat, humidity, and varying weather conditions.
  • Manual dexterity is sufficient to operate landscaping equipment and hand tools safely.
  • Must be able to become a registered St. Matthew’s House Driver.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and train landscape crew members in daily grounds maintenance operations.
  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor daily work activities to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to established standards.
  • Provide coaching, instruction, and performance feedback to crew members.
  • Promote a positive, productive, and safety-focused work environment.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and work quality of assigned staff.
  • Oversee the maintenance and appearance of landscaping and grounds across multiple St. Matthew's House properties.
  • Perform and supervise mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, planting, mulching, fertilizing, and weed control activities.
  • Inspect grounds regularly to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, or opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the planning and execution of landscaping enhancement projects and property beautification initiatives.
  • Ensure all grounds are maintained in a clean, attractive, and professional manner that reflects the organization's standards.
  • Coordinate and oversee external landscape contractors and vendors as assigned.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure work is completed according to project specifications, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Report contractor issues, concerns, or performance deficiencies to the Vice President of Social Enterprises.
  • Assist in obtaining estimates and coordinating service schedules when requested.
  • Ensure safe operation, maintenance, and proper storage of landscaping equipment, vehicles, and tools.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment and report repair or replacement needs.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Ensure crew members utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices.
  • Maintain inventory of landscaping supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Assist with scheduling routine maintenance and special projects across multiple locations.
  • Keep accurate records of completed work, maintenance activities, equipment issues, and contractor services.
  • Communicate property maintenance needs and project updates to leadership.
  • Assist with budgeting and resource planning as requested.
  • Respond to urgent landscaping and grounds maintenance issues as needed.
  • Collaborate with facilities, maintenance, and operational teams to support organizational objectives.
  • Interact professionally with residents, guests, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Social Enterprises.
